Friday Favorites: Dogs in Video Games

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday!

If you know me at all, you’d know I’m a sucker for dogs. Any animals, really, but dogs are definitely a favorite of mine. Today I thought I would share some of my favorite canines from the world of video games.

Isabelle.

I’m not the biggest Animal Crossing fan, I’ll admit. I played the games for a little while, then got bored with the real-time aspect of it. I tried out New Leaf and still have it on my 3DS, but I haven’t played much of it thus far. Nevertheless, I really liked the character Isabelle. She’s cute, cheerful, and does her best to be as helpful as she can be. Why didn’t she just become the mayor?

This gorgeous pup, who hails from the Okami games, is actually a paintbrush-wielding god. Enough said.

Dogs in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Alright, so they don’t do much, but the dogs that run around in the castle town in Twilight Princess? I love them! They’re adorable, utterly in love with Link, and it’s such a nice break from the main quest to just play fetch with them. It was really just a cute, quirky touch that the designers stuck in the game, and I’m grateful that they did!

Poochy.

First seen in Yoshi’s Island, originally for the SNES, Poochy has returned in yarn form for Yoshi’s Woolly World. I’m pretty sure I squealed with excitement when I first heard Poochy yipping during the level! He was an adorable companion when he had first appeared and he’s reached a new level of cute in Woolly World.

What were some of your favorite video game canines?

  1. Poochy and Amaterasu are great choices! Yarn Poochy especially is incredibly cute. As far as video game dogs go, I will have to choose K.K. Slider. He’s a singing dog with a guitar! I used to look forward to Saturdays just to hear him sing one of his famous animalese tunes.
