With consoles like the Wii and Wii U having a special “Virtual Console,” and companies coming out with remakes or re-releasing games (such as the original Pokemon games for the GameBoy Color), what other older games do you think deserve a remake? Or maybe even a sequel?
Well, I love how they remade Pokemon’s Ruby and Sapphire. There were so many cool aspects they were able to add into the game to make it even better than it was before. To be honest, I think the Kanto region is due for another upgrade. The remakes of Red and Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen, are kind of outdated since they were for the Gameboy Advance. I think it would be cool if they added the Pokemon Amie to the older generations.
I’m actually quite satisfied with with the release of the original Pokemon games. Yellow had been my first Pokemon game, and it was such a great sense of nostalgia to play those again! How old should a game be before getting a remake? We just bought Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in HD, and the original one had come out nearly ten years ago, originally for the GameCube. We’re two console generations ahead of that now!
I agree. I’m not complaining that they just re-released the original Pokemon games as opposed to remaking them. I was too young to play them when I was a kid, so it’s nice to play it “old school.” Honestly, I think ten years is a good gap. They spout games out like no tomorrow and they’re fairly quick with the consoles, too. The Wii came out in 2006 while the Wii U came out in 2012. So all the Wii games were about six years old already. As of right now, the release date for the NX is March 2017. That’s about five years. So all the Wii games will be 10/11 years old.
Damn, that somehow makes me feel really old. So, with that age gap, should we have older games be remade for the newer consoles, go with what sells? Or do you believe that the publishers should stick to making brand new games for their new consoles? It’s a bit like movies nowadays. We’re seeing sequels and series everywhere in the cinemas. Sometimes we want a bit of originality.
Right, but then they’re taking a chance that the original video game will flop rather than take off. It’s why the majority of Nintendo’s new consoles always have a brand new Mario or Zelda title to kick it off. Nintendo knows that they’re most popular mascots sell well, so they stick to the traditional formula for the new games.
And I’m not complaining about that. I’m down for a new Mario and Zelda game for the rest of my life. Though to be honest, I don’t think Nintendo has anything to worry about. The old games are the best, but it’s nice to see them in a different light sometimes.
What about you? What older game do you think deserves a remake?
