I’ve been feeling nostalgic for some older favorite games lately. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was the first console that I have solid memories of playing on my own, so this Friday Favorites is dedicated to my favorite SNES games. Be sure to share yours in the comments!
5. The Lion King
A fun, guilty-pleasure game, The Lion King was something that I could pick up and play through within a couple of hours. The Lion King is one of my favorite Disney movies, and you can’t go wrong with all the wonderful music that accompanies the levels.
4. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong’s Quest
Donkey Kong Country was a fantastic game, but Diddy was always my favorite of the Kongs. Diddy Kong’s Quest had some of my favorite level designs, like the carnival land. Dixie was an added bonus in this particular game, with all of her unique abilities.
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
I gushed a bit about this game already in a previous Flashback Friday, so it may not be a surprise that it’s here on my list. This was always one of Rachel’s and my favorite games to play together. Half the time we were awful at the game, but we always had a great time with the 80s style turtles beating up Foot ninjas!
2. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Fun fact: I actually do not own an original SNES A Link to the Past cartridge. I have it for the GameBoy Advance, but the SNES version was always a treat to play at my grandparents’ house, usually courtesy of my very patient uncle. While Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game I actually played through on my own, A Link to the Past was my first introduction to this wonderful franchise.
1. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Is this a surprise? Super Mario RPG is probably my favorite game of all time. It introduced me to the RPG genre and gave me an awesome world to play in with new and familiar characters alike. The story was a bit cliche at times, but it was charming at the same time. I can’t recommend this game enough!
