Character Spotlight: Yoshi

Rachel Mii Double JumpHappy Tuesday!

This month’s Character Spotlight is, I’m sure, a fan favorite from pretty much everyone.

Character Spotlight: Yoshi

Yoshi is an adorable dinosaur. He first appeared in Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo by Nintendo in 1990. He was originally created to be Mario’s sidekick and is just that in many of the games. However, Yoshi grew as his own character.

He stars in many of his own games such as Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s IslandYoshi’s Story, and, the latest, Yoshi’s Woolly World.

Yoshi can do a lot of things such as eat items and enemies with his long tongue, create eggs and use them as projectiles, and he can also fly short distances. He comes in a variety of colors, which is just cool, and in some games, such as Super Mario Galaxy 2, each color has its own abilities after eating a certain kind of fruit.

I don’t know if Nintendo expected Yoshi to become as big as he did, but he is definitely his own character now with his own games and merchandise. Yoshi is iconic now and what a wonderful character he is.

  1. Yoshi is my favorite Mario character, no contest. Super Mario World is one of my favorite games ever, and Yoshi is a big a part of why I love it so much. He’s also green, which is my favorite color, and he’s so adorable. I used to use Yoshi all the time in Mario Kart and Mario Party games, until they made him middleweight as opposed to lightweight in the former series. I still love his character and also his series!

      • I had so much fun in Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Story with the differently colored Yoshi. I still remember being so excited getting the black and white Yoshis! His voice has grown on me, but I still prefer the record scratch noise he makes in the original SNES games. Either way, Yoshi’s so cute!

  2. Yoshi is my favourite Nintendo character too! I especially loved when Yoshi got the spotlight in Yoshi’s Story and Yoshi’s Island. His voice is just so cute and his cute little shoes are adorable too. I also love using Yoshi in the original Super Smash Bros on the N64 and learnt all his combos.
