Throwback Thursday: PokeFarm

Rachel Mii Double JumpHappy Thursday!

Has anyone ever heard of PokeFarm? Did anyone ever play it before?

It’s a website for Pokemon, but it’s a fun community game!

I don’t really know what made me think of PokeFarm, but it popped into my head the other day while I was cleaning my fish tank.

I used to play PokeFarm all the time when I first started college. I remember sitting in the library waiting for my next class to begin and I would just play PokeFarm to pass the time.

The whole point of the game is to collect eggs and hatch them. Each egg has a unique pattern so sometimes it’s easy to tell which Pokemon will hatch, other times not so much. There’s a “shelter” where you adopt eggs (and sometimes Pokemon).

In order to hatch an egg you need to “interact” with it, which means to click on it. Eggs need a certain amount of clicks before it hatches. That’s where the other users online come in. They can visit your farm and click on your eggs and you can visit theirs in return. Hatching eggs is what fills up your Pokedex.

There are many different fields (similar to Pokemon types) and you can place your Pokemon there after they hatch if you don’t want them in your party. Hatched Pokemon can level up and gain experience by feeding them berries, which is the same thing as clicking the eggs. Your Pokemon could also “scour” certain areas which took a few hour, depending on what they were doing. They would bring back items.

Oh, and you can only interact with your Pokemon once a day. It’s a sure-fire way to get people to come back the following day!

It was tedious, mindless, but a lot of fun!

I tried to log onto my account, but it was so long ago (2011–they only had Pokemon up to Sinnoh at the time) so they deleted my account. I remember they were strict about not being on in a long time. So my account was most likely deleted.

I wasn’t going to make a new account because I remembered enough, but I decided to anyway. It has been five years, after all.

The site sure has changed a lot! It’s the same premise, but they’ve added a lot of cool stuff. I can’t do too much yet because I haven’t hatched my first egg yet, but it looks like they’ve added badges, they have all the Pokemon through generation six, new items, and more events.

When I first made the account, the only “event” on the site was Pokerus where users would swarm whoever had Pokerus for a small chance of being the next one to catch it. It made your eggs hatch so much faster with all the clicks. I remember getting it once right before my next class started… I was late to it because I didn’t want to waste my Pokerus. It only lasts for a certain amount of time.

But now that I have an account again, I think I may end up addicted… It already took me way too long to write this post because I kept getting distracted by clicks.

It’s a fun game, even though it is kind of tedious and silly. But then again, I like those kinds of games!

Do you have a PokeFarm account? If you decide to try it, let me know in the comments!

  1. Interesting, I’ve never heard of it, but it sounds cute! I like the idea of multiple people raising a single egg. At first, I thought you were talking about My Pokemon Ranch, but this sounds like there’s just a little more to it than storing Pokemon, haha.
