Dress Up

Cosplaying is one such amazing way that many share their love of video games, anime, movies, and all sorts of other fandoms and general nerdiness. While Rachel and I do not have any skills in sewing and costume design, it is on our wistful “Things to Do Someday” list.

We’ve talked about cosplaying a lot, but, as Kris just mentioned, we lack certain skills required for cosplaying. If I could just model the costumes, that would amazing. Where do I get these costumes? I don’t really know.

Still it’s amazing the skill that many cosplayers have in recreating their favorite costumes and outfits from video games. One of our favorite cosplayers to follow is Atelier Heidi, as she goes by on her social media. Some of my favorites of her costumes are Zero Suit Samus and Jean Gray from the X-Men.

She is amazing! She’s working on a Zelda costume right now and I would buy all of her clothes if she sold them. The amount of time, effort, and creativity that goes into recreating a fictional costume is so cool. If we were able to do that ourselves, Kris, who would you dress up as?

I would definitely want to cosplay as Sheik. Zelda’s alter ego has been one of my favorite video game characters since I first started playing the Legend of Zelda games. Geno from Super Mario RPG would be lots of fun too, I think! Imagine the fun cape and hat, haha! What about you, Rachel?

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I would love to be Zelda. So we wouldn’t be able to be seen in the same room as each other! My other choice would definitely be a Pokemon trainer. I know that seems a bit simple, but I’m sure it would be comfortable and it would make me feel super cool.

Rosalina actually seems pretty fun as well. I’m game with Batman or a character from Fire Emblem too, haha! It’d be amazing to learn the skills to make cosplay outfits, clothes way more complex and gorgeous beyond a silly Halloween costume.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
That’s the thing. I don’t want to dress up for Halloween. I would love to be the character! That sounds corny, but I’m okay with that. Someday we’ll be able to do that, though. It’s one of my goals.

  1. I’m going to Kitacon for the first time this year so I know I have to make a big effort when it comes to cosplay. The only trouble is… I have no idea who to go as, and absolutely no costume-making skills whatsoever. Hmm. 😉

    • I hope you have tons of fun (and don’t stress too much about your cosplay)! While we had linked to her Instagram, Heidi also has youtube tutorials. Some may be helpful to you, and I’m sure there’s plenty of other cosplay tutorials on the Internet as well. Good luck, and have a great time at the con! 🙂

  2. I haven’t cosplayed in a while, but I have dressed up as both Zidane and Vivi from my favorite Final Fantasy, FFIX! They’ve been my favorite cosplays! Zelda and Sheik sound like great cosplays that you could do together! Hope you enjoy cosplaying if you ever get into it!

  3. The most I’ve done is put on some Pokemon merchandise and wear it. I absolutely love seeing people in cosplay and the stunning attention to detail they have taken to make their costumes look so awesome.
