Nintendo Direct 2017 Recap

Nintendo Direct 2017

If you have to work like Kris and I, then chances are you missed this year’s Nintendo Direct. It was hosted on the 12th of April, which was a Wednesday. I was able to catch the tail-end of it, but then dinner was ready, so you know. Lucky for us, Nintendo posted a recap of the upcoming games for the Switch and the 3DS.

Reading through the recap, I believe what I was most interested in was the section detailing the upcoming Switch games. While I’m pleased and impressed by the Nintendo Switch itself, it did not have a strong launch line. Instead, Nintendo seemed to place all their bets on Breath of the Wild — rightly so, it seems, but it still stands that there were not many games at all at launch.

I agree and even with this next line-up of games, we still won’t be getting most games until late spring and summer. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will come out by the end of April and while we plan on getting it, most people already have it. We never bought the DLC for Mario Kart 8, so it’ll have fairly new features for us, but I still wish they created a Mario Kart 9.

I’m looking forward to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well, especially with how stingy I can be with DLC! It’ll definitely be fun to explore all of the other racers and carts. I believe you mentioned Arms as well when that was first announced, so that’s another game to keep an eye out. I think I’d like Arms much better than 1-2 Switch when it comes to showing off the Joy-Cons motion controls.

I can’t wait for ARMS! That looks like it will be such a fun game and completely unique too. That’s being released June 16. Another game that will be out this summer is one of the two Sonic games they showcased. The summer game, Sonic Mania, goes back to the old school ways of graphics and stage levels. I’m excited for this one even though the Sonic games have been going downhill lately.

Hey, if they return to the original Knuckles, I’ll be satisfied! I hate what they did to his character in the Sonic Boom games, but I won’t get into that. I’m interested in seeing what they do, but I’m not too optimistic with the new Sonic games coming out. I did find it interesting that they’re going to have a Monopoly game for the Switch. I remember having one for the GameCube with all sorts of themed boards, so I’m curious as to what they’re going to do for the Switch version. If it has themed boards after their franchises, like Pokemon and Legend of Zelda, I may splurge on it.

We’ll just have to see what the Sonic games look like as their release dates get closer. I’m definitely interested in Monopoly. It’s one of my favorite board games and I too remember the Gamecube version. I wonder what they’ll do for the Switch? It would be cool if they added their franchises to it! There are interesting games to come during the course of 2017. I can’t wait to add more Switch games to our so-far small collection.
