Confession: Physical Games

Happy Thursday!

I thought I’d elaborate a little more on why I love digital download games.

This isn’t exactly another reason, but more of a regret.

I have a small barrel that sits atop my dresser in my bedroom. I don’t know why, but I use that to hold all my handheld games.

I have my Gameboy Color games, Gameboy Advance/SP, DS, and 3DS games in it.

Every single one of these was, of course, a physical copy. In the drawer next to my bed I kept all the covers.

That is until the drawer was too filled to keep anything else in there.

I thought, why keep these when they’re just sitting in a dark drawer not even holding any of the games they came with?

So, I regret to say, I threw them out.

One day I would love to have tons of bookshelves to display my games, but I don’t have the room now and, at the time, I hadn’t even thought of that.

Needless to say, I don’t have very many covers to my games anymore. I was thinking about it the other way and I’m sad I made the decision to get rid of them. I love the cover art and feel bad for throwing something like that out.

Maybe, if I ever win the lottery, I’ll rebuy all the games just for display purposes. In the meantime, I just have a barrel full of games.

Do you keep your games on display? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Ugh. We have ZERO boxes/manuals from our childhood games. I feel like that stuff must have gone into the trash immediately, but I don’t know for certain. The DS’s didn’t come out until after high school for me and I kept everything from those (mostly because my boyfriend [now husband] was really into keeping everything for resale purposes ๐Ÿ˜‰).

  2. Oof, that’s rough… It’s hard to justify keeping that stuff sometimes, but it’s suuuuuper hard to get rid of, too. I wonder what manuals I have lying around… I should investigate.

    • It is hard to justify that kind of stuff. It looks like it’s just clutter, but in a way, it’s not.
I have too many guides to count. Actual manuals though, those are probably gone with the covers.

  3. Aww, I know how you feel. There’s no way I can display most of these boxes anymore, so I left most of them in my parents’ home. That said, I hope one day to have enough shelves to display them. I think I’m too sentimental (possibly hoardy) to throw them out, though.

  4. Before we moved in to our new house I had completely run out of room to keep anything physical (books, movies, games, collectible, etc…) but one of the things my wife and I looked for when we were looking for a new home was an extra living space to give my stuff the space they required. It’s not feasible for everyone though and if we hadn’t bought the house we did or had to settle on something lesser, I’d probably not have most of my physical stuff anymore.

    • I know what you mean. It’s nice that you wife knew those things were important to you. Sometimes I feel like I’m going to need a mansion, lol.

  5. I had a bunch of covers for SNES and many n64 games but threw them out for the same reasons, I wasn’t doing anything with them. I kind of look back now and think I shouldve kept some, but too late now

    • It is too late. I actually didn’t even think of those games though. We have a crate filled with SNES and Nintendo 64 games, but it’s all the cartridges. No covers in sight.
