Monster Hunter Stories

Happy Thursday!

I know a lot of people are talking about the latest Monster Hunter game… Monster Hunter Stories.

I know nothing about this game or Monster Hunter in general, so let’s talk about it.

Monster Hunter is a game that I’ve always wanted to try out and play. However, other games always catch my attention. Therefore, Monster Hunter hasn’t been a huge priority for me.

Still, it’s in the back of my mind and definitely a series I want to try out.

But… where do I start?

The latest is Monster Hunter Stories, which just came out earlier this month on September 8th. After watching the trailer I realized this is a spin-off of the main series. (Like I said, I don’t know much about these games.)

I think it looks pretty good though. In a way, it reminds me of Pokemon. You grab an egg, hatch it, and then it joins your team.

Judging by the trailer, I think this game looks promising. The graphics are very well done and the music is good too. The game itself looks fun to play.

I feel like I want to give it a try, but then I have no idea what I’m doing. I feel like I should play some of the main games before this one.

What do you guys think? Where should I start?

  1. My favorite is Monster Hunter 3. You have to keep in mind that games of the series involve a whole lot of grinding; you have to kill monster over and over again to acquire material to forge good weapons and armor, and taking down those beasts can take quite a bit of time.

When I got into the series I thought I would not like it because of that characteristic, but I ended up loving it!

As for Monster Hunter Stories, it’s on my to-play list after I am done with Samus Returns (which I am going through right now) and SteamWorld Dig 2. If you get it, let me know what you think!

  2. I’d say start with Stories. It doesn’t play anything like the core Monster Hunter games I’ve played. And yes, from what I’ve played of it so far, it is very similar in design to Pokemon, however you seem to raid monster lair’s to get eggs instead of just catching them out in the open. It also seems a bit more structured than Pokemon does, at least in my experience of it.

So far, I’m enjoying it. The art style is super cute and fun. The cat Navirou is amusing. I got a Velociraptor like creature as my first monster and I can ride him and we have cool kinship attacks that do super damage. It’s a good time.

  3. I only have played MHU4, which is pretty cool. I’m still far from finishing it, but yes there is alot of grinding to get stronger gear to take on the tougher monsters. But the fights are super fun.

Don’t know if this applies to stories, but multiplayer is the way to go. Doing it solo from what I’ve heard is tough, and less fun, which is actually how I’ve played it so far. No one to play online with and not quite sure how it works. It’s never been too clear on that.
