Throwback Thursday: Animal Crossing

Happy Thursday!

It’s hard to believe that September is just about over. The other day a lot of people were talking a lot about Animal Crossing. Out of coincidence, I had chosen Tom Nook as my Character Spotlight this month.

I decided to talk a little more about the original Gamecube game.

The first Animal Crossing game came out for the Nintendo Gamecube in April 2001. Kris had gotten the game for her birthday. A family friend knew that she loved video games and that she loved animals, so… Animal Crossing!

While Kris enjoyed the game, she didn’t fall in love with it like I did.

I had watched her play the game when she first turned it on. While it can be boring to watch someone play Animal Crossing – decorating your house, running errands for the other villagers, fishing, etc. – I thought the game was pretty cool.

I was pleased to know that you could add four players to the same village. So, I created my own character and joined her village. WolfsTown, I believe it was called.

I never 100-percent completed the game. I never caught all the bugs or fish or nabbed all the fossils or collected all the furniture and clothes, but I did officially pay off my debt. In a sense, I “beat” the game and there is a golden statue of my character near the train station in the village.

The original Animal Crossing will always be one of my favorite games. It was casual, fun, and relaxing. I’ve enjoyed every other Animal Crossing game since then.

And I hope there will be more soon.

Which is your favorite Animal Crossing game? Do you remember the original game? Let me know in the comments below and we’ll chat!
