2018 Games

Out with the old, in with the new. While there are still plenty of games from 2017 that we would like to play, we are also setting our sights on games that are coming out next year. With plenty of platforms to play the games on — Steam, Switch, Xbox, even an older Playstation — we have plenty of options.

2018 looks like it’s going to be a great year for gaming both with big developers and indie developers. It’s hard for us to keep up with the many games that come out, but we’re looking forward to keeping up with the games in 2018 as best we can.

The games that I’m looking forward to that come to my mind immediately are Fire Emblem and the newest Ace Attorney game for the Nintendo Switch, and Pokemon Crystal for the Nintendo eShop. Yes, Crystal isn’t a new game, but it is one of the Pokemon games that I have the fondest memories of, and I’m so excited to see it come to the eShop after my physical copy’s battery died.

I’m certainly looking forward to Pokemon Crystal and Ace Attorney as well. You can never have enough Pokemon and I’m eager to dive into new cases with Phoenix Wright! I’m also looking forward to the new Yoshi game for the Nintendo Switch. I loved Yoshi’s Woolly World and and of course the old school Yoshi’s Island, that I would love to get into another Yoshi game.

Everyone knows that Yoshi is the star of the Super Mario series, haha! He’s too cute not to be! I think I would also enjoy seeing Monster Hunter World. While I have yet to try any Monster Hunter games, which I aim to fix, Monster Hunter World looks like so much fun!

Looking at the list of up and coming games for 2018, not many of them have actual release dates yet, so I hope not too much gets pushed back. We also got into a lot of indie games this year, so I’m interested to see what kinds of games will come out in that department as well.

Yes, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what amazing games indie developers come up with! We’ve had some fantastic, big-name indie games within the past couple of years — Cuphead, Dream Daddy, Stardew Valley, Undertale — with plenty of gems hidden in the sands, and the gaming industry can only go up with more and more indie developers trying their hand at video games.

  1. I too am very excited for Fire Emblem and Phoenix Wright! I’m also excited that the other two Ace Attorney trilogies are also coming to Switch, because I have only played the original three and so it’ll be a good chance for me to catch up on the series. Ni no Kuni II and Dragon Quest XI also come out in 2018, so it’s gonna be a great year for JRPG fans, I think.

    1. Ahhhhhh, the AA series is SO GOOD! The original three, I think, were some of the best, but you can’t go wrong with any of the installments in my opinion. I’ve heard of Dragon Quest, but I’ve never heard of Ni no Kuni II… I’ll have to check it out!

  2. As far as new games, I’m looking forward to Dragon Ball FighterZ. I love Dragon Ball and it’s been a while since I’ve played one. I’m very excited for this one. There are a couple of old-school games I’m looking to relive. One is Okami. They just released an HD version for the PlayStation4. And I’m looking forward to the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. Twelve old school Street Fighter games. I’m not very good at fighting games, but it’s hard to pass up. I’m forget if this is coming out next year, but I’m stoked for Mega Man 11. I’m a little tentative about how they redesigned Mega Man, but I love Mega Man games, so I’m eager to see what they do.

    1. I love how optimistic and excited your comment is! 😀 That sounds like such a fantastic list! I bet the HD Okami is gorgeous — I remember how impressed I was with the graphics for the original game. I should find that game and try to play it again… Street Fighter is fun, but my memories are mostly of Street Fighter II when my sister I played it on our uncle’s SNES. We just recently got the SNES Classic and we’re excited to play that game again!

  3. 2017 has been such an amazing year, and even though 2018 likely won’t top it, I’m still looking forward to some fun games. Most of them are actually coming out in January for PS4: Monster Hunter World, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Final Fantasy Dissidia NT. Other than that, I do want whatever games Nintendo has in store for Switch like Kirby, Yoshi, and Fire Emblem. I look forward to seeing what else is coming up, since that selection seems a little dry to me so far. More Ace Attorney will be excellent, though!

    1. We keep hearing good things about the PS4… Since we have the XBox One, I suppose the PS4 will be our next splurge if we get enough money for a new console, haha! Nintendo’s selection does seem to be the normal franchises, nothing really new, but those franchises haven’t let Nintendo down yet, right? We shall see! 🙂

      1. I love the PS4, but I think a lot of games are ported to both PS4 and Xbox One, so you’d really have to look at the exclusives and see if they’re worth it. For me, I don’t really need an Xbox One since I have PS4, but I would still love to get one. I ended up purchasing a cheap Xbox 360 for $30 last year and am happy with it haha!

        1. Can’t go wrong with getting a console for thirty bucks. Sounds like you’re getting your money’s worth! We’ve been lucky in that both of our Xbox and PS3 came from good friends, haha!

        1. YES. It’s exciting to see FE coming back. I joined the fandom around the time Sacred Stones came out, and I loved Awakening. Fates was pretty good, too, and I didn’t mind Echoes. I wonder if a Switch FE would be another remake or an entirely new game?

          1. I myself started between the release of Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones. I liked Awakening and Fates about the same, which is to say I thought they were some of the best games of their respective years. Echoes is okay, though I haven’t finished it.
If it’s a remake of the fourth game, that would be nice.

          2. I’ve finished Lyn’s story on Blazing Sword, my parents having found the game for me eons ago but, even back then, the cartridge was too old for the battery to hold a save. I have the game on the Wii U’s Virtual Console, which I also need to finish, now that I think of it… Thank you for reminding me, haha!
Echoes wasn’t my favorite, but I enjoyed the characters for the most part. I felt that some of it was a step back from some aspects of Awakening and Fates, but I know Echoes was a remake.
Is the fourth Genealogy of the Holy War? I don’t know too much about it, but I have heard others echo your sentiment. It’ll be new to me either way, so I’m down for it!
