Friday (Least) Favorites: Super Smash Bros Stages

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday, everyone!

The Internet nearly lost its mind when Nintendo announced Smash 5 for the Switch recently. Since then, there’s been plenty of speculation about characters, stages, and assist trophies that will be in the next installment of the series. This is a list of stages that I will be happy not to see again.

WarioWare, Inc.

Aside from the fact that I am not a fan of the WarioWare games in general, this stage was not a favorite a mine due to the microgames. I understand they’re supposed to be distracting, but I am not interested in trying to “win” a microgame when I want to focus on the fight.

Onett

I disliked how small this stage seemed. It appeared to be too busy with the city-like setting, with not much room to perform many combos when trying to fight your opponents.

Rumble Falls

Rumble Falls was the type of stage that moved vertically, forcing the players to keep up with the scrolling while also trying to focus on fighting the other players. I would much rather end up losing lives due to my opponents instead of missing small ledges and falling behind the scrolling platforms.

  1. I loooved Onett in Melee. So I’d disagree there.

Let’s see, my least favorite stages are probably the Metroid ones in SSB64 and Melee. The stage hazards are just too annoying, as imposing as Kraid was in Brinstar Depths.

    • I’m glad you were able to enjoy Onett! Are you also a fan of the Earthbound games? I’ve never gotten the opportunity to play them.

We jumped from being scared at the hazards in the 64 Metroid stage, with the rising lava (or whatever the stuff was)! We definitely weren’t expecting that!

  2. My least favorite is probably the Blue Falcon stage. One of my main characters is Ike, and it is crazy difficult to use him with all the ships moving around and the road zipping by so quickly underneath.
