N64 Classic Wish List

Rumors abound that Nintendo will be giving us the N64 Classic at some point in the future. Everyone and their mother has a wish list detailing what games they would like to see on a classic version of the N64 console, and Rachel and I are no exception. Frankly, I think a couple of the obvious games would be the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, despite those having been remade for the Nintendo 3DS family.

If this turns into a real thing, I really want the Mario Party 1, 2, and 3. I would hope, after hearing so many complaints from the latest Mario Party games, especially Top 100, Nintendo would listen and add the original 3 Mario Party games onto the tiny console.

At least one of those has to be on there! I believe Mario Party 2 is the most popular, but Mario Party being the original probably has a better shot at being on there if Nintendo could only pick one. I’d love to see Pokemon Stadium, either one if not both, on the Classic console. Those games were so much fun!

I would prefer both Pokemon Stadiums. While they’re at it, they can add a brand new one as well. Pokemon Snap would certainly be great to revisit as well. People would go nuts for that, I think.

I wonder if the Poke Finder in the Rotom Dex in Sun and Moon was supposed to be a little nod to Pokemon Snap? People would love it if Snap made a comeback in the N64 Classic! The original Smash Bros., Super Mario 64, and Harvest Moon 64 would be great additions, if not shoe-ins, as well.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I would love to play the original Smash game again. That’d be so much fun, especially with the new one coming out. Also, I’m sure this is a given for me, but I’d love to have Paper Mario on there. We have it on the Wii from the virtual console, but it’d be fun to play it on the Nintendo64 again… even if it shrunk.

Yoshi’s Story would be adorable to see again, and Mario Kart 64 would be fun to revisit. I’m sure fans of Star Fox 64 would welcome it, as well as Donkey Kong 64. There are quite a few games with “64” in the title, aren’t there?

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I was just going to say, there are a lot of “64” games. I’d love to play Donkey Kong 64 again and even play Banjo Kazooie, which is a game I’ve never tried myself. Overall, the Nintendo64 was a classic and had so many great games. I really do hope they bring it back.

  1. Pretty much all the Rare games! That is what I would like to see, as unlikely as it may be.

In fact, that would be one of the problems the N64 would have to face. If Nintendo failed to strike some sort of deal with Rare and Microsoft, the system would be lacking most of that generation’s classics, because the N64 library was basically all Nintendo and Rare.

    • It’d be a shame if Nintendo couldn’t strike a deal with Rare and Microsoft. It’d be a lot of recognition and nostalgia all around. It’ll definitely be interesting to see what kind of games would make it onto an N64 Classic — we may just see all three Mario Party games, both Pokemon Stadiums, lots of sequels and games from the same franchise line rather than the added variety of Rare’s games.

  2. The only Rare game I see making it is Donkey Kong 64 unfortunately (one of the worse DK games in my opinion). Maybe Diddy Kong Racing but I think that’s even pushing it. Goldeneye, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Banjo Kazooie, and Perfect Dark don’t have a chance. I think for the most part we won’t see very many 3rd party games.

Between Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Snap I think Snap will make it. Pokemon Stadium used that transfer pak feature to transfer your Pokemon over from the original GameBoy games. Without that the game was kind of boring in my opinion.

MarioParty 2 is the best out of all the MarioParty games but don’t count out the original.

LOL! You know what I wrote about this a while back. Here are my predictions.

    • I liked the theme song of DK64, haha! I never really played much of it, considering we never owned it. I remember playing it once in a while when our uncle brought his N64 and some games on our family vacation once. Diddy Kong Racing was a fun game, and I hope they would be able to include that!

Snap definitely was the fan favorite, I believe, but we also had a great time with Stadium while ignoring the transfer pak. We’d pick random surprise teams of “rental” Pokemon to battle against each other, making up our own challenges and just having fun beating each other with Pokemon we may not have caught yet in our GameBoy games.

Totally agree that Mario Party 2 was the best, but for starting the franchise, Mario Party will probably be on the table.

Thanks for the link! I’ll definitely check it out! 🙂

  3. I think my dream list for an N64 Classic would include: Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros., Star Fox 64, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Pokemon Snap, Mario Party 1-3, Kirby 64, Yoshi’s Story, Paper Mario, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Turok, Turok 2, and if they could work out a deal with Microsoft, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and Perfect Dark.

    • That sounds like a fantastic list! I forgot about Mario Tennis. I haven’t really had any urge to get the new Mario Tennis for the Switch, but I remember having fun with the N64 Mario Tennis. I used to rent it from Blockbuster, haha!

I think, if the N64 Classic becomes a thing, a lot of people are going to be upset if Banjo Kazooie is left off of the mini console. It was never one of my favorite games, but I know how popular it is!

  4. I kind of have two different approaches I’d like to see. One would be the multiplayer-focused approach where we get a couple Mario Party games, Mario Kart 64, Smash Bros, all these fun party games. I’d also love to see the return of some of the consoles quirkier titles that we won’t ever get to see again. As you pointed out, we can play Ocarina of Time on our 3DS, Mario 64 has been remade, so has Star Fox 64 – let’s get the weird stuff like Chameleon Twist, Mystical Ninja, and Mischief Makers. Those games will never see the light of day again otherwise.

    • I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the quirkier titles — it would certainly give us more incentive to try out games we never got a chance to during the N64’s run. Then again, fan favorites may sell the classic console better.

…Of course, it’s Nintendo, so they probably won’t have too much trouble selling Classic consoles regardless, lol.
