Still riding the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hype train, this Friday is dedicated to the assist trophies that I am hoping will make an appearance in the game. While there is still a little time to hope for new characters that weren’t revealed at E3 (hey, they didn’t say Inkling and Ridley were the only new characters!), I figured it’d be a little safer to wonder about the new assist trophies.
Breath of the Wild Champions
While I’d love to fight as the Champions themselves (don’t you dare tell me Urbosa and her lightning powers on the stage wouldn’t be awesome), having them be assist trophies would be a close second. Urbosa could cast lightning on the field, Daruk can create a temporary force field around the player who called him, Mipha can heal some of the player’s damage, and Revali could create strong gusts of wind on the field that could either help or hinder the players by shoving them around, staying true to Revali’s standoffish nature.
A bit of a silly one, but I think it would be hilarious to just see a herd of Goombas go storming across the field, sweeping up anyone who happens to be in their way as they tumble off the stage. Hey, we’re going to be able to play as a Goomba in Super Mario Party, right? Bring this little guy back onto the Smash stages!
At the risk of over-saturating the assist trophies with Legend of Zelda characters, I think Lana from Hyrule Warriors would be an interesting assist trophy. She’s not a character that’s part of the main franchise line up, and she could attack with a random spell from her arsenal. Plus, she’s adorable.
Alright, so this isn’t an assist trophy, but I figured it is close enough for this list. I presume there will be more Pokemon to discover in the pokeball item with the Alola generation of Pokemon appearing since the last Smash Bros. game. I’m hoping to see Decidueye, the final evolution of the Grass-starter Rowlet, rain arrows down on opponents with his Z-Move Sinister Arrow Raid. Mudsdale was another favorite new Pokemon of mine and can do an Earthquake or other devastating Ground-move. A Salazzle popping up and temporarily poisoning opponents, where their damage counter steadily rises, would be fun to see as well.
