Despite the fact that Nintendo seems to be focusing all their efforts on the Switch and ignoring the 3DS family of handhelds, there was a brand new design for the 2DS XL that was just released — a gorgeous cover paying homage to Link’s Hylian Shield. The new 2DS XL design comes with A Link Between Worlds already downloaded, which probably helps the price to be about $160.
Nintendo has always come out with cool designs for their handhelds, but I feel like they’ve gone above and beyond with the XL versions. First it was the pokeball design with a button in the middle (that does nothing but it’s still cool) and now it’s Link’s shield which looks awesome.
I’m still in love with the Galaxy design for the 3DS. If I was able to splurge and get these designs, I totally would. I have absolutely no need for another 3DS or 2DS XL, especially one with a copy of a game I already have. Of course, if there was an option to have the Hylian Shield design 2DS XL without A Link Between Worlds, maybe I wouldn’t be able to resist temptation and buy one.
Honestly, if I had the money, I’d buy it anyway. I still want that pokeball design as well as the Pikachu design. I wouldn’t mind having a handheld with an Animal Crossing design. The one they have is cute, but I would love to see an interactive one like the pokeball… though I have no idea what they would do for that.
There are so many designs out there, many of which were never released here in North America. I would love the Fire Emblem Awakening design for the 3DS, but I believe it was only released in Europe. I think I would like to see a design paying homage to the Ace Attorney series. I totally wouldn’t mind having Edgeworth’s face on the cover of my handheld!
Oh, yeah! I’d love to have an Ace Attorney design. It’s funny that Nintendo comes out with all these cool designs. My DS has Pokemon stickers on it and my 3DS has a sticker of a giraffe. I just made my own designs. The 2DS XL is hard though because the cover is grooved.
I would love to paint on or create my own designs for my handhelds, but I’m also worried about ruining them. Perhaps one day I’ll see if I can find a couple of older models, ones that I wouldn’t mind giving a makeover. Maybe I’d give one a little touch of Harvest Moon or my own Fire Emblem designs.
That would be nice. If I had any artistic ability like that, I’d try that as well. For now though, I’ll stick with my stickers.
