Character Spotlight: Waluigi

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Tuesday!

It’s the last Tuesday of the month which means it’s time for another Character Spotlight! Today I’ll be talking about a Mario character who I’ve never really paid too much attention to.

Character Spotlight: Waluigi | Nintendo | Video Games | Gaming | DoublexJump.com

Waluigi first appeared in the Mario Tennis series for the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color way back in 2000/2001 respectively. He was created to serve as a bitter rival for Luigi since Mario had Wario as a rival. Wario and Walugi have sort of become the anti-super-Mario-bros, if you will.

I never really cared too much for the characters, to be honest. Kris and I used to play as Daisy and Yoshi in Mario Kart: Double Dash and Wario and Walugi, no matter what we did, they were always tailgating us and hassling us. So, we always had a vendetta against them.

I’ll admit though, Waluigi has grown on me a bit. I do feel bad that he hasn’t had his own game yet. He can’t even be an echo character to Wario in Super Smash Bros, at the very least.

However, Nintendo seems to always have something up their sleeve. Waluigi is so popular and people have been demanding he have his own game or more of a part in spin-offs for a long time. I’m sure – I hope – Nintendo will give him the spotlight soon enough.

Let me know how much you love Waluigi in the comments below.

  1. He was my main character in Mario Tennis Aces until I traded it in. Crazy reach and could pretty much cover the whole court from anywhere.

That said, I’m curious to find out if the fan hype around Waluigi is actually “real”, or if it’s people just liking the memes that some in the community have created. Do people actually want to buy and play a Waluigi game, or just riff on the memes? Maybe the cross between meme hype and “real” hype are one and the same?

  2. What I don’t understand is how this guy went from very annoying and possibly one of Nintendo’s worst characters ever to being the most requested character to put in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? What did this guy do? Why do people love him? I don’t understand!
