Pokemon Adventure Mode

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Thursday!

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is a little over a month old now. If you own the game, I assume you’ve played the Adventure mode. Kris and I were playing it the other night and a Pokemon battle came up. It made me think of the new Pokemon game coming to the Switch and crossing it with the Adventure mode in Smash Ultimate.

There are 809 Pokemon. We know a brand new generation and region is coming to the Nintendo Switch, which means the Pokemon count will most likely be over 1,000. After playing Let’s Go, I can’t wait for the new game to come out. I’m eager to meet new species of Pokemon!

There are a lot of Pokemon spin-off games and even crossovers. Remember Pokemon Conquest? That was a good one!

Anyway, Kris and I were playing Smash and I had this brilliant idea – at least, I think it’s brilliant. I would love the Adventure mode from Smash Ultimate but just have it all be Pokemon.

Like Smash, you can start off with one Pokemon. This can be random or you can choose from any of the main starters – either from Kanto or you can choose from all the regions. You have that one Pokemon and move around the board encountering the “spirits” but they’re actually Pokemon. You can battle the Pokemon and, once defeated, you can have that Pokemon join your team.

Once you’ve gathered more than six Pokemon, you can switch them out of your box, mix and match them, and go through the map with different teams changing out certain Pokemon as you wish.

There can be chests hidden around the map that contain potions and other items found in Pokemon. Boss battles can be the legendary Pokemon that, once defeated, give your team an ability to power them up or something. Maybe there can be trainers around the map as well with their own team. The map could go through the many regions in the Pokemon world as well so it’s all familiar.

There can be obstacles that you need a certain Pokemon with a certain move to help you own with – just like how the Master Hand breaks a bridge and you need a certain spirit to fix it. Of course, you don’t need to worry about teaching Pokemon any moves in this, but a certain move that can be known by a certain Pokemon and it can automatically be used to further you along, if that makes sense.

The Adventure mode in Smash is huge and given that there will soon be over 1,000 Pokemon (I assume), then I think a Pokemon version of the Adventure mode would be awesome.

This is something that would never happen, but it’s nice to think about. I may be alone in this dream, but I would play the crap out of that game if it existed.

This is a fabulous idea, right? Let me know in the comments below! If you liked this post, please share it around.

  1. This actually sounds like something I’d like to play on my phone. A battle here and there with a board similar to World of Light would make for something I’d return to over and over.
