When it was announced that there would be a Nintendo Direct today, with a focus on Fire Emblem Three Houses, I was excited! Considering the Direct overall, I thought it was well done! We got excited at seeing the opening sequence showing off Super Mario Maker 2, which I’m sure will do fantastic on the Switch with its portability, touch screen, and the online mode.

When it comes to any Nintendo Direct, sometimes I’m sure impressed and other times not so much. That’s mostly because of my taste in games though. One thing that I will say though is that, no matter what, the Directs always start off strong and end strong. The moment Mario died to the Spiny, I immediately knew we were finally getting Super Mario Maker 2. I was super excited! I enjoyed Super Mario Maker on the Wii U and I’m sure the sequel will be even more popular with the new items and just being on the Switch.

We then rolled into an announcement for the new update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, mostly for Joker and reminding us that we should probably get the Fighter’s Pass for the DLC characters… Still haven’t done that yet, whoops. I was also interested in seeing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. I’ve never played a Marvel Ultimate Alliance game before, but this one looks pretty good and there’s both local and online multiplayer modes.

Yeah, totally forgot about the Fighter’s Pass. Definitely something to add to the to do list. Anyway, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order definitely looks nice! I’m willing to give that one a try. Another headline was announcing BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! which is a game Kris and I have never played. However, now that we can play co-op, I’ll consider giving it a try. I was personally excited for Treasure Tracker. I never got the same for the Switch because I have it on the Wii U. Since more courses will be added as well as co-op, I’m thinking of getting it for the Switch now. Though, I’ll admit, I really just want a sequel.

I found it interesting that Assassin’s Creed III will be coming to the Switch. It’s a franchise I was always interested in playing, and we even had a few titles for our Xbox 360 but didn’t get a chance to play them before we got the red ring of death for the console. I may be picking this up to finally play the franchise. It was also fun to see that Deltarune will be making its way to Switch as well as a promise for more chapters for the game! Considering that I’ve enjoyed both Undertale and Deltarune, this was great to see!

Another game I’m fairly excited for is Tetris 99. I’m getting tired of battle royales, but this is putting a fun twist on it. I love a good game of Tetris so this is one I’ll definitely be picking up. We’re getting so many brand new titles as well as games we all know and love… I absolutely can’t believe they’re bringing Link’s Awakening to the Switch in a remastered version. Link and his surroundings look like toys, but it looks great. I’m looking forward to that one!

Oh my goodness, it was so exciting to see a Legend of Zelda title! Link’s Awakening is, admittedly, a Zelda title that I have never gotten a chance to finish, so it’s awesome to see it remastered on the Switch! Seeing the first few seconds of the remastered opening was great! Of course, I was personally looking forward to seeing the Fire Emblem information, and I wasn’t disappointed. I was a little confused, admittedly, because seeing that your character is a professor in a school with three houses kind of reminded me of Hogwarts, but I’m optimistic. The characters and art look great, and I’m looking forward to hearing just a little more about the story.

Fire Emblem looks great, I agree. I was confused as well, but I also don’t know the game as well as you do. Overall, the Drirect was great. There was no more information on Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Animal Crossing, but at least I know they’re coming. We were surprised with the release dates as well – it’s going to be a busy summer for gamers!

  1. My favorite part was easily the Link’s Awakening reveal! I loved that game when I was younger, and I absolutely love the visual direction they took with it! Different, but good! I’m also pumped for Dragon Quest XI with its ability to swap between modern and 16-bit visuals!

    • I’m super excited for Link Awakening! I think that game is going to be amazing. I’ve never played Dragon Quest, but it definitely looked good and I thought it was cool that they’re allowing to switch between visuals. It really adds a lot even though it seems like something minor.
