We’ve been able to have blasts from the past with the classic mini consoles, but there is another older console that is dear to our hearts. The N64 was probably one of our best eras of gaming, being old enough to complete games on our own with a better understanding and fondness for plenty of the series that were on the console. One of my favorites for the console — which will be a complete surprise to no one — is the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Being one of my first video games, it’s one of my favorites mainly for nostalgia and for introducing me to this amazing franchise.
Ocarina of Time is hands-down one of the best games ever. Even though I never played it myself, I used to love watching you play through it – especially the harder temples. I still love watching you play. For me, though, I have to say Paper Mario. My, we are predictable, aren’t we?
We are definitely a bit predictable with some of our favorites, but they’re great games! Paper Mario for the N64 was the strong start of a series — even if it didn’t have the strongest finish — and continued the RPG genre for Mario and friends after Super Mario RPG. Speaking of being inspired by RPGs, my second favorite N64 game would be Pokemon Stadium 2. Both installments are the same concept, but the second has both generations of Pokemon that were out at the time.
Oh, yeah. Pokemon Stadium 2 was a great one. I agree, I think the second one was better, but they had more to offer. Speaking of big franchises though, you can’t go wrong with the Mario Party series. Mario Party 1, 2, and 3 were all on the Nintendo 64. Mario Party 2 was definitely the best of the three, but they were all great fun.
The Mario Party series, especially the earlier games, is fantastic. Mario Party 2 is definitely a favorite, but I do miss Mario Party 3 a lot as well. It may be due to the fact that we have Mario Party 2 for the Wii’s Virtual Console and we haven’t played Mario Party 3 since the N64’s time. I also have fond memories of Mario Tennis. I remember renting that often enough from Blockbuster, but I really don’t remember why I was so interested in it, haha! It was just a fun game for me back then. Despite that, oddly enough, I have no interest in the Switch’s Mario Tennis game.
Oh, wow. Mario Tennis. I honestly don’t even really remember that one. But really, though, how can we forget Super Mario 64? That game is iconic even though we didn’t fully beat it until just a couple years ago.
Ah, yes, Super Mario 64… That is still one of the best games out there, despite how frustrating it can be to play nowadays with the controls and Mario sometimes being a dork. Still, it was absolutely satisfying to get all 120 stars in the game! The N64 was a great era of gaming, and I wish now more than ever that there will one day be an N64 Classic.
I can only keep my fingers crossed for a Nintendo 64 Classic someday. Seriously, Nintendo. They would make bank if they did that and so many people would be super happy.
