Animals in Video Games

Rachel Mii Double JumpHi, everyone!
Animals are everywhere and they’re some of the best companions to have when you’re going on an adventure.

Poochy is a fun, lovable dog that every gamer should know. He made his debut in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and has lately been seen in Yoshi’s newest game, Yoshi’s Woolly World.
He’s adorable, he’s fun and pretty helpful. For example, in Yoshi’s Woolly World he follows you around like the cute puppy he is and gets you to high places and retrieve items.

This is a Loftwing if you’re familiar with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
Loftwings are loyal, lovable creatures that help their caretaker in anything. They come when called, they help get around to the different islands in the sky, and… They’re just all around gorgeous birds.

This one may be cheating as Yoshi is now the main character in most Mario games and he even has a few games of his own.
I mean, just look at my first example.
However, Yoshi has been around for generations in the Mario world and he was, originally, a sidekick. Hatched from an egg, Mario would hop onto his back and Yoshi would attempt to fly, eat enemies and fruit, and overall aid Mario on his quest.
Now having animals as the main character of the game… That’s a whole other post in itself.
Who are some of your favorite animal companions?

          1. Ah yeah. I’ll be talking about my favorite Animal Crossing character tomorrow (Thursday). He was from the first AC game for the Gamecube. I’m sure if I went back on now he’d be gone.

          2. I agree! I wonder if they’ll make a new one for the NX? Though after playing New Leaf, I think I prefer it on the handheld rather than on the console…
