Character Spotlight: Paper Mario

Rachel Mii Double JumpHappy Tuesday and end of February!
I’ve been talking a lot about Paper Mario: Color Splash this month and I thought what better character to do a Character Spotlight for than Paper Mario himself?
Not Mario-Mario, Paper Mario.
Paper Mario is his own character and known as such from Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, a game that was released in the US January 22, 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. I personally have yet to play the game, but it’s on my list.
People speculate about Paper Mario being a different Mario from a paper world due to Paper Jam, where real Mario exists.
However, that doesn’t explain the previous Paper Mario games.
Paper Mario first appeared in Paper Mario released in the US for the Nintendo 64 on February 5, 2001. He then appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and the most recent, Paper Mario: Color Splash.
Paper Mario is one of my favorite characters because his first game was the first game I had ever played and completed on my own. The music is great, the gameplay is fun, and it’s a fairly easy game to boot.
The character Paper Mario will always have a special place in my heart.

  1. I loved Paper Mario on the N64. I have never played the original cart but have played it via PC emulation and Wii U Virtual Console. I thoroughly enjoyed the mechanics and it is a shame that the very same mechanism is absent in the instalments that followed.

    • Playing the game on the N64 is so much fun. However, I now play it on the virtual console as well since it’s so old. It’s still nostalgic though.
And I agree, I hope that one day they realize what a mistake that was and make another game just like it.

  2. I like that they kind of gave Paper Mario a personality as opposed to the Marios in the other games. Plus, he’s just so dang cute! The sceneries, soundtracks, and stories (for the most part) are all great, too. I started Paper Jam, but didn’t finish it. I also got Color Splash, but I haven’t even opened it yet! (o_o)

    • I agree. Paper Mario is probably the best “Mario.” I haven’t played Paper Jam yet, but I did recently finish Color Splash. It actually wasn’t bad!

  3. There’s something about Paper Mario that I find more adorable than regular Mario. Maybe it’s because he’s silent, but he seems more innocent. He’s also usually more calm and happy than his constantly screaming 3D counterpart. Either way, I love PM, and I hope his series gets the awesome experiences that his character deserves!

    • There is something cute about Paper Mario, I agree. I don’t know what it is, but I do love him. He just can’t jump though, lol.
