Friday Favorites: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Items

Double Jump Kris MiiYay for another Friday!
Considering I complained about the items in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that I find problematic, I figured today I would share the items that I love getting in that item box roulette.
Piranha Plant
I find it so amusing to have your character’s kart just have a giant pot sticking out the front of it and this man-eating plant helps tug you along while taking bites out of your opponents.
Who doesn’t like explosions? I think this is a great item as long as you don’t accidentally blow up yourself. I love dropping it behind my kart to get rid of tailgaters.
Red Shells
Alright, this one is a bit of a cop-out, but how can you not love the red shells? They’re little homing devices that go directly to attack the opponent in front of you. While you can defend yourself against them, they are one of the most useful items in a race.
I love the classic mushrooms! A decent little speed boost to pull in front of an opponent right before they cross the finish line, or to use during a mushroom shortcut on a course — I find them great to use in almost any situation (looking at you, Rainbow Road).

What do you think of the Mario Kart items? Which are your faves?

  1. Red shells are one of my favorites too! It’s so dependable. Unlike the blue shells, you can get the red ones in second place and fire them for sweet victory. I also like lightning bolts because they affect everyone in potentially devastating ways.

    • Unless the person ahead of you is smart enough to hold onto bananas and green shells to deflect red shells, right? Rachel is notorious for that, haha! I have noticed that the blue shells now go along the road, knocking over anyone they come in contact with, rather than fly through the air on the way to the player in first place. It was an interesting touch.

  2. Bob-ombs, just like in Smash Bros, are responsible for creating the most absurdly hilarious situations. So I got to go with them.
