Nintendo Says There Will Be No Virtual Console For The Nintendo Switch [Gaming News]

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Thursday!
I have some sad news to share with you all… though maybe I’m the only one who’s sad about it. Either way, here we go.
Nintendo says there are no plans for Virtual Console to come to the Nintendo Switch | Gaming News |
According to a recent article on My Nintendo News, there will be no virtual console coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Why? It doesn’t say. Nintendo “currently” has no plans. So, I guess you could look at it and say they may make the plans down the road. Still, I’m wondering if I shouldn’t get my hopes up.
The thing is, the Switch is a home console and a handheld. It would be so easy for them to put old home console games on there as well as handheld games since the Switch is the best of both worlds. I mean, the 3DS is still a thing so maybe they would just put DS game on, but still.
I was just thinking about the virtual console the other day so it’s ironic I found this article now. I was wondering when they would add it and also realized they most likely wouldn’t add the NES or SNES games now that they have the classic versions. I think Nintendo would rather people buy those, as scarce as they are.
To look on the bright side, maybe they’re planning mini classic versions for other consoles such as the Nintendo64? I don’t know, we’ll see.
Also, Nintendo has released more information about the online features for the Switch. Apparently, there will be 20 NES games on there and more will come over time.
So… Maybe Nintendo really will add the virtual console, but it will come with the online features? I don’t really know what they’re planning. I do hope to see the virtual console at some point, but the online features don’t seem to be too bad.
I’m looking forward to what Nintendo comes up with next.

What are your thoughts on the lack of  the virtual console or the online features? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I’m sure there’s something in the wording. Maybe they won’t release the Virtual Console, but there will be some other service that allows playing of classic games in a different manner. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

    1. It certainly will. I read somewhere, after writing this, that the 20 NES games for the online features will be like rent. You can play them for a certain amount of time and then buy them if you want, which is basically the virtual console.

    1. It’s the online stuff, yeah. It’s $20 for the year, which is great, and it’ll come with a few NES games to start, but I think the games are just a trial before they switch them out with new games. If you want to keep the games, you have to buy them. That’s what I’ve heard, anyway.
