Of Creators and Companies

Double Jump Kris MiiHey everyone! Here we are on Monday again!
Nowadays there are tons of different companies (and individuals!) creating video games. Do you have a favorite creator?
Growing up, Nintendo was the video game company that I was always loyal to. As a kid, I wasn’t playing “video games,” I was playing “Nintendo.” It took a few years for me to realize that there were other creators besides Nintendo that also produced video games, video games with mascots other than Mario, Link, and Pikachu.
Even now, though, Nintendo is still a favorite in my household. We tend to get every generation of systems, both console and portable, from Nintendo and we’re always on the look-out to see what new projects they have coming out.
When I was younger, I remember having a PlayStation as well (it’s honestly packed away somewhere with the other older generations of systems). Spyro was the main game I played on that and, while I had a few other games, it was basically the only use I had gotten out of the PlayStation.
Rachel and I now have an XBox 360 and a PlayStation 3, both obtained from a few good guy friends (one of whom is now our brother-in-law), but they don’t see much use at all. We’ve played a bit of Minecraft and Thief on the XBox, and Rachel’s played the Batman Arkham series, and honestly nothing really at all on the PlayStation. We’re trying to find more games to be interested in for those systems, but our gazes always wander to the Wii U and 3DS shelves at the game store.
Then there are all the amazing indie developers out there with so many games to try! So many games, so little time…
What about you? Is there a particular company you find yourself always playing, or are you a jack-of-all-trades kind of gamer?

  1. As a big Nintendo fan, I inevitably love pretty most of Nintendo’s offerings. During the SNES glory days, Squaresoft was a haven for producing RPGs. They are not as good nowadays, but Square-Enix still produces hits like The World Ends with You and Bravely Default. Capcom has hits and misses, but overall, I am a fan of their IPs, and it shows when I can recognize many of the characters in Marvel vs. Capcom games. As far as creators go, I am a big fan of Shigeru Miyamoto (aren’t we all?). I also love Shu Takumi, who is the main writer of the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games. Any of his plots are well-crafted mysteries that I just cannot get enough of!
