Friday Favorites: 2018 Games to Finish

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday everyone!

Did everyone have a good new year’s? It’s hard to believe that we’re in 2019 now! This is a time that most people try to finish up tasks that they’ve accidentally left behind so they can start the new year with a clean slate. Going through our 2018 Game Reviews page, I’ve realized that there are a few games that I started last year that I would love to finish up.

Undertale

I know the story of Undertale, I know the gameplay and probably many of its secrets. I’ve watched quite a few playthroughs of the game through YouTube and Twitch, after all, playthroughs that prompted me to try it myself. Yet, while I’ve played and completed Deltarune, the “sequel” of Undertale, I haven’t finished a playthrough of Undertale just yet.

Batman: The Telltale Series

I’ve finished the first two episodes, I believe, of this game, and it definitely held my interest to want to play the rest. Considering the game has a sequel, I would love to finish the next couple of episodes before exploring the next one.

Octopath Traveler

This is a major game that I want to finish. Honestly, with the other newer Switch games out, I cannot remember where we’re at in this game. From what we’ve played, it’s one of my favorite games from 2018, with its gorgeous graphics, music, and battle system, but we’ve yet to finish it.

Stardew Valley

Although this isn’t a game to actually “finish” considering how open-ended it is, I definitely would like to return to the world of Stardew Valley. I’ve accidentally abandoned my farm on our Steam account, but I’m also hoping to rope Rachel into doing a co-op farm with me at some point in the future.

What are some 2018 games that you’re looking to finish?

Rachel’s Favorite Games Played In 2018

Rachel's Favorite Games Played in 2018 | Video Games | Gaming | New Year | DoublexJump.com

10. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

This was a game for the Xbox One that Kris and I played with two of our friends. We didn’t get the chance to beat the game, but it was a 4-player co-op game and it was a lot of fun to play with others. It was stressful but we had a good time.

9. A Case of Distrust

This is a visual novel-like game. It’s a mystery with satisfying music and cool visuals. This is a short game and it was slow to get into the story, but it was a good game nonetheless.

8. Miles & Kilo

I had a lot of fun playing this game. Miles & Kilo are trying to fix their ship. Kilo, the dog, automatically runs at top speed and you have to jump a precise moments. It’s a fun, satisfying game and harder than it seems.

7. Overcooked 2

This is another game Kris and I love to play with our friends. We love the first game and a lot new mechanics were added to the second game. This game is so frustrating and stressful, but it’s a good one.

6. The Lion’s Song

A point-and-click sort of game, The Lion’s Song tells a wonderful story through the eyes of four different characters. Each character is a creative – an artist, musician, mathematician, and a writer. Each of their stories are told within the same world and they all intertwine. It’s a great story-telling game and I hope there’s more some day.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

Kris and I streamed this Gamecube game on our Twitch channel. It’s a game we played a long time ago and it was awesome to get the chance to play it again. It’s no secret we love The Legend of Zelda so having a co-op Zelda game is great.

4. Luigi’s Mansion

This is one of my favorite games. I was able to get the Gamecube going and play the game again but also having the ability to play it on the 3DS was a treat. I enjoyed the updated graphics and just getting the chance to play the game again regardless of whether I was able to get the Gamecube to work or not.

3. Detective Pikachu

This is a game that I had been looking forward to for a long time. I was so excited to finally get the chance to play the game when it came out. I don’t normally pre-order games for myself, but I did with this one. It was a nice change of pace from the typical Pokemon games. I love Pokemon and mysteries, so it was so much fun to experience this one.

2. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

I mean, I don’t know if I need to explain this one. This is another game that I have been eagerly awaiting for a so long. There were some things, such as the Spirit mode, that I was iffy about, but now that I’ve played the game, I’ve fallen in love with every bit of it.

1. Let’s Go Eevee!

Let’s Go Pikachu goes along with this one, but I technically haven’t played the Pikachu version yet. I’m so happy to have the chance to visit the Kanto region once again. I love having my Pokemon follow me around and I can ride and interact with them. It’s awesome to see Kanto in a new light and I can’t wait to complete my Pokedex and go shiny hunting!

Kris’s Favorites Games Played in 2018

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Monday everyone!

It’s the end of the year, and what a great year it has been for video game nerds like us! Today I’m sharing my list of games that I enjoyed playing the most this year. While some of them came out in 2018, others were old favorites that I’ve played for the first time, either ever or just in a long while.

djfave2018games

10. Harvest Moon: Light of Hope

This is not the greatest Harvest Moon game in existence, but it went back to simpler mechanics and a quick, but cliche, story from old-school Harvest Moon games. It was a calming game with cute graphics that relaxed me after long days at my day job.

9. Sonic Forces

This wasn’t the greatest game by far, but… I did have fun with it. It was quirky for a Sonic game, I was amused at the avatar inclusion, and I enjoyed most of the levels, as well as the music.

8. Overcooked Duo

We’ve played the two Overcooked games for the first time this year and we had a blast playing them with our cousins and friends! The puzzles, teamwork, and all of our characters running around like headless chickens against the time was awesome!

7. Batman: The Telltale Series

I love Batman. He was one of my first introductions into the world of superheros and comics, and he’s been one of my favorites ever since. The Telltale Series episodes bring a great experience as an action, visual novel game staring the Dark Knight.

6. Octopath Traveler

This game is so pretty! Having a brand new RPG is always a treat to me, and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played of Octopath Traveler so far. The graphics, the music, the characters, the battle mechanics, I like it all.

5. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

Along with starting Twitch streams this year, Rachel and I were able to get the necessary accessories in order to hook up and play our GameCube games again, including this Legend of Zelda title. One of the true co-op Zelda experiences, Rachel and I have had a great time reliving this adventure again.

4. Deltarune

While I also played Undertale this year for the first time and was introduced to most of the characters that were featured in Deltarune, I enjoyed Deltarune’s game mechanics much more. Of course, they’re a polished version of Undertale’s mechanics, and I enjoyed seeing how Toby Fox grew as a creator.

3. Game Dev Tycoon

One of my all-time favorite games, this business simulator was completely addicting to me when I first started playing it. I’ve gone back to it quite a few times throughout the year as well, picking it over even newer games at times.

2. Super Smash Brothers Ultimate

One of the most anticipated games of the year, Smash Ultimate did not disappoint. Rachel and I have been having a fantastic time unlocking the characters, exploring the different modes, and hearing how much fun everyone else is having with the game.

1. Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee

This game is just freaking adorable and I absolutely love it. Pokemon Yellow was one of my first forays into the gaming world and, while Let’s Go is like “easy mode” when it comes to Pokemon RPGs, the sheer amount of nostalgia this game gives me makes it one of my favorites.

2018 Games I Wish I Had Played

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Thursday!

Weirdly enough, we’re already halfway through December and 2018 is coming to an end. We’ve played a lot of games that came out this year, especially indie games. However, there’s always a few that seem to miss quite a few games from Nintendo and other companies.

So, in no particular order, here are some games I wish I had played this year.

2018 Games I Wish I Had Played | video games | gaming | nintendo | blogging | DoublexJump.com

Lost Sphear

This is a game I’ve heard about over and over again. It’s an RPG and the graphics look gorgeous. I wanted to give this one a try but it fell to the wayside. I will definitely keep this one in mind though.

Subnautica

I know for a fact I would not be good at this game. I’ve seen a lot of people on YouTube and Twitch play this game and it looks cool and pretty. The plot itself isn’t something I’d normally play but I wouldn’t mind giving it a try.

Celeste

This is probably the number one game I wish I had played. I plan on getting it at some point, but people rave about this one. A bonus is that it’s about mental health and I’m all for that, especially since I suffer from it myself.

Kirby Star Allies

Another one that missed our radar. We don’t play Kirby games that much but this was one I wanted to try. We didn’t get the chance to though.

A Way Out

I don’t play rated M games because I don’t like the blood, gore, and violence. Though this definitely seemed like an interesting one and I think Kris and I would have had fun with the multiplayer.

Nintendo Labo

We have this. It’s still in the box.

Unravel Two

We have this too. Still haven’t had a chance to play it.

Mario Tennis Aces

For some reason, we were iffy on getting this game. There were mixed reviews and while we wanted to give it a try, we ended up spending money on something else gaming related. So, this is definitely one I want to get down the line.

Lego Harry Potter Collection

I asked for this one for Christmas, so maybe I’ll get to play it before the year is through?

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

I believe I also asked for this for Christmas… we’ll see if I can play it before 2018 is over!

Friday Favorites: 2018 Holiday Releases

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday everyone!

The holidays are coming, with radio stations already playing Christmas songs and the scent of snow in the air. Mom is already asking us to fix up our Amazon wish lists, and she’s a little annoyed that we tend to pre-order our games nowadays, haha!

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee

This game is coming today! Rachel and I have been waiting for this game to come out since it was first teased. It’s a major nostalgic trip for me, seeing as Kanto was where I started my “Pokemon journey” a couple of decades ago. We’re hoping the co-op mode will be tons of fun!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Who isn’t waiting for this game? Admittedly, much of the surprise and speculation seems to have already been shown off and/or leaked onto the Internet, but I’m still looking forward to seeing how this game plays out. While I’m also not looking forward to shelling out extra cash for additional DLC characters, I am very curious as to who else is going to be on the roster.

Gris

Gris just looks to be one of the prettiest video games we may ever see. It’s boasted as being a platform game with no enemies or lives. Rather, your character explores the beautiful scenery and puzzles, being in tune with their emotions after going through a difficult experience in their life.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

We are not PlayStation girls. We grew up mainly with Nintendo consoles and, even now, we have an Xbox One that we turn on occasionally while our PlayStation 3 that was generously gifted to us from a friend has yet to be powered on, despite how long we’ve had it. Nevertheless, we did have the original PlayStation and the original Spyro trilogy. If memory serves me, we enjoyed being the little, sassy purple dragon, so I think it’ll be fun to play the games again!

What holiday releases are you looking forward to?

Nintendo Direct On January 11 [Rumor]

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Tuesday and Happy 2018!

With a new year comes a lot of new things. I feel like most people came into the new year with hope and positivity and I hope it stays that way.

Nintendo Direct January 11, 2018 [Rumor] | Gaming News | Nintendo | Nintendo Direct | DoubleJump.com

Word on the internet is that there will be a Nintendo Direct on Thursday, January 11th. This direct may showcase some up and coming games for the year for the Switch and 3DS.

Of course, this date is just a rumor but I get the feeling it’s most likely true. It’ll be happening sometime this month at the very least.

What am I hoping for? Well, I’m still hoping for some certain games that I’ve talked about plenty of times before.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the Switch

Please? Anyone? Please.

Super Smash Brothers for the Switch

I’m eager to play this game on the Switch. I don’t care if it’s a deluxe version or a brand new version (though brand new would be preferable). I just want to duke it out with my favorite characters on Switch with my friends and pretty graphics.

Animal Crossing for the Switch and/or 3DS

I want another main Animal Crossing game. I want another New Left but bigger and better.

Pokemon

I know they’re coming out with something for the Switch. I’m hoping they shed some more light on what that will be about.

Mario Party for the Switch

A real Mario Party. A good one.

That’s all I really want. I mean, I’m sure I’m forgetting a few games, but I’ll keep it simple for now.

I don’t think those games are too much to ask for… right?

What games are you hoping they announce at the Nintendo Direct? Are they any special games you’re looking forward to in 2018? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to chat with you.

2018 Games

krismii
Out with the old, in with the new. While there are still plenty of games from 2017 that we would like to play, we are also setting our sights on games that are coming out next year. With plenty of platforms to play the games on — Steam, Switch, Xbox, even an older Playstation — we have plenty of options.

rachmii
2018 looks like it’s going to be a great year for gaming both with big developers and indie developers. It’s hard for us to keep up with the many games that come out, but we’re looking forward to keeping up with the games in 2018 as best we can.

krismii
The games that I’m looking forward to that come to my mind immediately are Fire Emblem and the newest Ace Attorney game for the Nintendo Switch, and Pokemon Crystal for the Nintendo eShop. Yes, Crystal isn’t a new game, but it is one of the Pokemon games that I have the fondest memories of, and I’m so excited to see it come to the eShop after my physical copy’s battery died.

rachmii
I’m certainly looking forward to Pokemon Crystal and Ace Attorney as well. You can never have enough Pokemon and I’m eager to dive into new cases with Phoenix Wright! I’m also looking forward to the new Yoshi game for the Nintendo Switch. I loved Yoshi’s Woolly World and and of course the old school Yoshi’s Island, that I would love to get into another Yoshi game.

krismii
Everyone knows that Yoshi is the star of the Super Mario series, haha! He’s too cute not to be! I think I would also enjoy seeing Monster Hunter World. While I have yet to try any Monster Hunter games, which I aim to fix, Monster Hunter World looks like so much fun!

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Looking at the list of up and coming games for 2018, not many of them have actual release dates yet, so I hope not too much gets pushed back. We also got into a lot of indie games this year, so I’m interested to see what kinds of games will come out in that department as well.

krismii
Yes, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what amazing games indie developers come up with! We’ve had some fantastic, big-name indie games within the past couple of years — Cuphead, Dream Daddy, Stardew Valley, Undertale — with plenty of gems hidden in the sands, and the gaming industry can only go up with more and more indie developers trying their hand at video games.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I’m sure it’ll be a great year for gamers!
