Friday Favorites: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Items

Double Jump Kris MiiYay for another Friday!

Considering I complained about the items in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that I find problematic, I figured today I would share the items that I love getting in that item box roulette.

Piranha Plant

I find it so amusing to have your character’s kart just have a giant pot sticking out the front of it and this man-eating plant helps tug you along while taking bites out of your opponents.

Bob-omb

Who doesn’t like explosions? I think this is a great item as long as you don’t accidentally blow up yourself. I love dropping it behind my kart to get rid of tailgaters.

Red Shells

Alright, this one is a bit of a cop-out, but how can you not love the red shells? They’re little homing devices that go directly to attack the opponent in front of you. While you can defend yourself against them, they are one of the most useful items in a race.

Mushrooms

I love the classic mushrooms! A decent little speed boost to pull in front of an opponent right before they cross the finish line, or to use during a mushroom shortcut on a course — I find them great to use in almost any situation (looking at you, Rainbow Road).

What do you think of the Mario Kart items? Which are your faves?

Friday (Least) Favorites: Mario Kart Items

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday, everyone!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch has become the best selling Mario Kart game to date, and it broke that record after only its third day! Rachel and I are really enjoying it, but there are definitely some items that I could do without flying around the tracks…

Lightning

I get so annoyed at this item. No warnings, lose your items, always spinning out… Although the tiny versions of your kart going zoom and the squeakier character voices are definitely amusing!

Blooper

I admit that the challenge of not being able to see with the Blooper clouding up your screen with ink is an interesting idea, I feel as if it falls flat. Half of the time, the ink doesn’t hinder your sight enough and it’s just more annoying than a challenge.

Fire Flower

While the Fire Flower is fairly creative when it comes to being added to the Mario Kart games, it’s not my favorite item. I feel as if it’s only useful if an opponent is right in front of you. Otherwise, I just fire them all off as soon as possible to free up an item slot.

Coin

These things are all over the tracks… Why waste an item slot with them? Even if they omitted them and all the players in the first couple of places in the race got banana peels instead, at least that would be another challenge and amusing to see everyone slipping everywhere.

What do you think of the Mario Kart items? Any favorites or least favorites?

Friday Favorites: Zelda Items

Double Jump Kris MiiHello everyone! The Legend of Zelda is a fantastic series, as most know. There are a plethora of items and weapons available to players in the games aside from the Master Sword.

This week’s Friday Favorites post is all about my favorite items from the Legend of Zelda series. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments below!

Roc Feather.

The Roc Feather was always a favorite of mine, especially in Four Swords Adventures. Having the ability to jump, and double-jump when it’s upgraded, was always fun. Especially when you were able to do a sweet downward thrust on enemies with your sword!

Megaton Hammer.

This was easily my favorite weapon in Ocarina of Time. It was awesome just smacking enemies (especially against Dark Link in the Water Temple) with the hammer, even if it was a bit unwieldy to carry around some of the time.

Pegasus Boots.

If you couldn’t have guessed by my Favorite Smash Bros. characters post, I prefer speedy characters over strength-based characters. On that note, it’s probably no surprise that the Pegasus Boots were added to this list. Getting that extra speed-boost (and the amusing animation when we accidentally run into a wall/tree/whatever) is awesome!

Beetle.

I didn’t know what the heck to make of this thing when I first saw it in Skyward Sword. After using it a few times, however, it triggered a love of flying as we took control of the Beetle, soaring through whatever area to help us out. It seemed like a little friend, an extra for the adventure of the game.

Bow and Arrows.

I don’t know why, but the bow and arrow weapons were always one of my favorites in the Legend of Zelda series. With Ice, Fire, Light, and Bomb arrows, they’ve always been versatile. Being able to snipe enemies from a distance is always a joy, too, haha!
