Would Your Rather: Mario Edition

Would You Rather: Mario Edition | Video Games | Gaming | Nintendo | Mario Bros. | DoublexJump.com

krismii
We’ve done a couple of “Would You Rather” posts in the past, and we thought it’s time for another. This round will be all about Mario, considering we’re big Nintendo fangirls and we realized we haven’t quite celebrated Nintendo’s best-known mascot just yet. So, Rachel, would you rather play a game that has Bowser as Mario’s ally or the antagonist?

rachmii
I think I’d rather have Bowser as the antagonist. That’s what he’s well known for and he’s usually funny as the bad guy. Of course, I do feel bad for him and would love to see him as an ally again like in Super Mario RPG. Kris, would you rather only be able to play Mario Party 10 or Mario Party Top 100?

krismii
Really? I would have thought you’d pick him as an ally. Why start me off with such a hard question? If there’s no option for “neither,” then I suppose I would pick the Top 100. At the very least, I can play the mini games. Would you rather have tea time with Princess Peach or Princess Daisy?”

rachmii
I’m surprised you didn’t pick 10. The mini-games is a good point though. We don’t know each other that well with Mario, huh? I think I would prefer to have coffee with Peach. Daisy is kind of annoying sometimes. Would you rather have a Goomba friend or a Bomb-omb friend?

krismii
Apparently not, haha! I think I’d like a Bomb-omb friend as long as, you know, they can regenerate after exploding like the ones that were partners in the Paper Mario series. Goombas can be cute, though! Would you rather live in a haunted mansion with Luigi or live in the Comet Observatory with Rosalina?

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Despite my fear of the dark and ghosts, I’d have to pick the haunted mansion with Luigi. In Dark Moon the ghosts are friendly anyway, so it should be okay. Would you rather live in the Paper Mario world or the Yoshi’s Island world?

krismii
Paper Mario world, I believe. The world seems so lively when Bowser isn’t stealing the castles and whatnot. I’d love to see Shooting Star Summit from the original Paper Mario world! One last question to wrap this up. Would you rather only play the Mario Party series or the Mario Kart series as your source of Mario games?

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Hm… That’s a real tough one. I think I’d have to go with the Mario Party series. Each game is different and I think I’d get tired trying to beat my own high school in Mario Kart.

Character Spotlight: Goomba

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Tuesday!

The end of the month has arrived which means I’m going to be shining the spotlight on another lovable character in gaming.

Character Spotlight: Goomba | Nintendo | Mario Bros. | Video Games | Gaming | DoublexJump.com

Goomba is a character in the Mario franchise. He’s an enemy of Mario’s and has been since his first appearance in Super Mario Bros. in 1985. Goomba is as simple to defeat as stomping on him. He is based after the shiitake mushroom, after all.

I’ve always liked Goomba because he’s always been an “easy” enemy and overall simple in name and appearance.

Goomba appears in just about every Mario game as an enemy though he’s never much of a threat. Now that Super Mario Party as been announced, it seems as though Mario and friends are being inclusive and allowing just about everyone to join in on the fun and games.

Will I be playing as Goomba in the new Mario Party game? Most likely not only because Boo is now a playable character. But I’m interested to see Goomba just as much as all the new characters.

Do you like Goomba? Are you excited to play as him in Super Mario Party? Let me know in the comments below!

Top Tuesday: Favorite Sidekick Characters

Happy Tuesday!

I have to admit, I still have Pokemon on the brain, so it took me a little while to figure out what I wanted to talk about for today’s list.

It’s a tad on the random side, but it’s video game related, so… there you go.

5. Tails

Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog series is a great character. He’s like a little brother to Sonic, but is a great friend who also knows what’s he’s doing. He’s smart, can think quickly, and can fly. He’s the kind of character that the hero would be lost without.

4. Diddy Kong

Diddy Kong is a character who isn’t mentioned that often. I think most people forget about him pretty easily because they’re more focused on Donkey Kong. Yes, he’s stronger, but Diddy was always faster and… I just always preferred him for some reason.

3. Luigi

Some people may not consider Luigi a sidekick, but that’s how he originally started. He was always there to help or cheer on his big brother Mario from the sidelines. He even has his own game where he saves Mario… you can’t get a better sidekick than that.

2. Navi

People rag on Navi from the Legend of Zelda series because she’s “annoying” or “bossy” or whatever. Still, I always enjoyed her and she stuck around poor little Link as an adult and a child, which is pretty special, especially since he wasn’t a typical Kokiri.

1. Fi

I didn’t plan on having two characters from the same series, but I had to put Navi on the list and Fi… well, Fi is pretty awesome too. She’s Link’s sidekick in Skyward Sword as she is his sword. She’s the Master Sword and the game Skyward Sword is considered the first in the Legend of Zelda timeline. Which means… well, the way I see it, Fi is in every single Zelda game aiding Link along the way. If that’s not commitment, I don’t know what is.

Dress Up

krismii
Cosplaying is one such amazing way that many share their love of video games, anime, movies, and all sorts of other fandoms and general nerdiness. While Rachel and I do not have any skills in sewing and costume design, it is on our wistful “Things to Do Someday” list.

rachmii
We’ve talked about cosplaying a lot, but, as Kris just mentioned, we lack certain skills required for cosplaying. If I could just model the costumes, that would amazing. Where do I get these costumes? I don’t really know.

krismii
Still it’s amazing the skill that many cosplayers have in recreating their favorite costumes and outfits from video games. One of our favorite cosplayers to follow is Atelier Heidi, as she goes by on her social media. Some of my favorites of her costumes are Zero Suit Samus and Jean Gray from the X-Men.

rachmii
She is amazing! She’s working on a Zelda costume right now and I would buy all of her clothes if she sold them. The amount of time, effort, and creativity that goes into recreating a fictional costume is so cool. If we were able to do that ourselves, Kris, who would you dress up as?

krismii
I would definitely want to cosplay as Sheik. Zelda’s alter ego has been one of my favorite video game characters since I first started playing the Legend of Zelda games. Geno from Super Mario RPG would be lots of fun too, I think! Imagine the fun cape and hat, haha! What about you, Rachel?

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I would love to be Zelda. So we wouldn’t be able to be seen in the same room as each other! My other choice would definitely be a Pokemon trainer. I know that seems a bit simple, but I’m sure it would be comfortable and it would make me feel super cool.

krismii
Rosalina actually seems pretty fun as well. I’m game with Batman or a character from Fire Emblem too, haha! It’d be amazing to learn the skills to make cosplay outfits, clothes way more complex and gorgeous beyond a silly Halloween costume.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
That’s the thing. I don’t want to dress up for Halloween. I would love to be the character! That sounds corny, but I’m okay with that. Someday we’ll be able to do that, though. It’s one of my goals.

Character Spotlight: Luigi

Rachel Mii Double JumpHappy Tuesday!

I can’t believe the end of the month is already here. It’s time for another Character Spotlight and I’ve chosen one of my all-time favorites!

Character Spotlight: Luigi

Luigi was created as such so the Super Mario games could have a two-player option. They changed Mario’s color scheme, thus coming up with Luigi. He soon grew into his own character being deemed as Mario’s younger brother and developed a personality.

He first appeared in the 1983 game Mario Bros. for the NES by Nintendo. In that game, however, there were no differences between him and Mario, other than their colors. He didn’t begin to come into his own until Super Mario Bros. 2 which came out in 1988 for the NES. He was slightly taller than Mario and was able to jump higher as well.

Luigi was always one of my favorites because I felt as though he and I were alike. We’re both the younger sibling, we’re both “player two,” and we’re both afraid of our own shadows. I loved how he was always willing to help no matter how scared he was.

Luigi’s Mansion, which came out in 2001 for the Nintendo Gamecube, is one of my favorite games ever. It’s a simple storyline and it’s a fairly quick and easy game to beat. But what I love most about it is the fact that Luigi is afraid of everything, but he still takes charge as the protagonist and fights to save his brother, who happens to always be the hero.

Luigi is an all-around great guy and he is one of my favorite Nintendo characters. I love playing him any chance I get.
