Friday Favorites: Future Xbox One Games

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday, everyone! Thank goodness for another weekend!

Now that Rachel and I have an Xbox One, we’ve been looking into Xbox One games and trying to figure out how to spend our video game budget money. Here is a list of Xbox One games that I’m looking forward to one day playing!

Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter is a franchise that I’ve been interested in trying for a couple of years now. To see a game that will feature global play between people in such a popular franchise sounds fantastic!

What Remains of Edith Finch

Rachel and I hadn’t heard of this game until the Game Awards last month. Hearing how praised it has been for its story and presentation, it definitely caught our attention.

Okami HD

We have the original Okami for the Nintendo Wii, and the graphics were amazing. To see the game in HD would be phenomenal, and probably would entice me to actually finish the game.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

It’s Middle-Earth. We’re suckers for Lord of the Rings lore, and we would love to dive into a game based on that franchise. The Nemesis System, which allows the NPCs to learn and react accordingly to the protagonist’s deaths, sounds quite interesting…

Friday Favorites: Missed 2017 Games

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Monday, everyone!

While we played a good chunk of games this year, there are plenty of games that I wanted to play but, for some reason, was unable to do so. Here is a simple list of games that are still stuck on my to-play list — here’s hoping they make their way off of that list next year!

Batman: Telltale Series

We’ve honestly had this bought and downloaded on our Steam account for quite a while now… We just haven’t booted it up. Batman in a story-driven game that takes your choices into account sounds like a perfect game, and I can’t wait until we actually get a chance to sit down and play it!

Monster Hunter Generations

I really don’t know much about this franchise, aside from you creating a character to go out and, well, hunt monsters. A couple of the YouTubers that Rachel and I watch regularly enjoy the series and, upon seeing a few Let’s Play videos from them, it seemed interesting enough to try our hand at it. However, the 3DS game has just been chilling with my other games, having not been touched yet.

Has-Been Heroes

We got this action, strategy video game with our Nintendo Switch bundle, and it has unfortunately been shoved aside in favor of Breath of the Wild, Snipperclips, 36 Fragments of Midnight, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey, to name a few. We still have the little cartridge waiting patiently for us to stick it in the Switch console, and hopefully we won’t forget about it next year.

Yooka-Laylee

Technically speaking, this just came out for the Nintendo Switch, but it has been available on Steam since April. It’s been hailed as the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, which… was not my favorite game as a kid. Still, Yooka-Laylee never looked bad to me, and it’d be interesting to see how the developers grew on the Banjo-Kazooie nostalgia.

Cuphead

This game won two Game Awards and we were really invested in a Let’s Play done by a couple of our favorite YouTubers that it made me itch to see how well we could play the game. It may be one of the first games that we download from Steam next year!

Have you played any of these games? Were there any 2017 games that you missed that you wanted to play?

Monster Hunter Stories

Happy Thursday!

I know a lot of people are talking about the latest Monster Hunter game… Monster Hunter Stories.

I know nothing about this game or Monster Hunter in general, so let’s talk about it.

Monster Hunter is a game that I’ve always wanted to try out and play. However, other games always catch my attention. Therefore, Monster Hunter hasn’t been a huge priority for me.

Still, it’s in the back of my mind and definitely a series I want to try out.

But… where do I start?

The latest is Monster Hunter Stories, which just came out earlier this month on September 8th. After watching the trailer I realized this is a spin-off of the main series. (Like I said, I don’t know much about these games.)

I think it looks pretty good though. In a way, it reminds me of Pokemon. You grab an egg, hatch it, and then it joins your team.

Judging by the trailer, I think this game looks promising. The graphics are very well done and the music is good too. The game itself looks fun to play.

I feel like I want to give it a try, but then I have no idea what I’m doing. I feel like I should play some of the main games before this one.

What do you guys think? Where should I start?

Which Monster Hunter is your favorite? Have you tried Monster Hunter Stories yet? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments below and we’ll chat!

Holiday Haul

Rachel Mii Double JumpHappy first Tuesday of 2017! I can’t believe another year has come and gone.

Last year, Kris and talked about what we hoped to get for Christmas and Santa did not disappoint.

holiday-haul

All of the gifts I received were either book/writing related, video game related, or Harry Potter related. Is it safe to say that my friends and family know me a little too well?

pikachu-socksRemember I was excited to get Charmander socks from that video game raffle basket? Well, I got more socks! I don’t think I’ve ever had so many socks in my life.

I now have nifty ankle socks of Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Psyduck. They’re actually pretty comfortable!

I also got a book called Guy in Real Life by Steve Brezenoff which is based on a guy and girl and an MMORPG game. I’ve started reading it already and it’s pretty good!

I also got a couple of T-shirts. I got a Pikachu one, a PeanutButterGamer shirt, and a super cool Ace Attorney shirt. Two of the shirts were from The Yetee, very soft and comfy, and the other one was from the Pixel Empire, which was also pretty soft. I really like the fabric on them.

And, of course, I got some video games.

game-haulI got Pokemon Moon (I already have Pokemon Sun that I pre-ordered myself), Mario Party Star Rush, and Paper Mario Color Splash.

Kris got Pokemon Sun, Monster Hunter Generations, and Sonic Generations.

So, between the two of us we have a good haul of new games to play.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with friends and family. I also hope you all had a great New Year. 2017 will be the year of games!

Did you get any new video games for Christmas? Let me know in the comments below!

Holiday Finds

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Monday, everyone! I hope everyone had some lovely holidays!

Rachel and I had a great time with our families, and spent plenty of time getting acquainted with some new video games.

Video games — or gift cards towards the Nintendo eShop, Steam, what-have-you — tend to be a standard gift for Rachel and me. We did fairly well this Christmas season, and we can’t wait to share our thoughts about the new games!

From our older sister and brother-in-law, we had each gotten the other version of Pokemon Sun and Moon. We’re definitely looking forward to being able to explore the Alola region with a new team!

Our grandparents gave Rachel Mario Party Star Rush for the Nintendo 3DS while I got Monster Hunters Generations for the same system. I have never played a Monster Hunter game, but Rachel and I heard and watched good things about the series from some of our favorite YouTubers. Here’s hoping I can figure it out!

Paper Mario Color Splash for the Wii U was another game that had been under the tree for Rachel, while Sonic Generations for the 3DS was wrapped up for me. It’d been awhile since I played a decent Sonic the Hedgehog game, so hopefully Sonic Generations won’t be bad at all. We had also received the newest expansion for the Sims 4, City Living.

I know Rachel already spent some of her Nintendo eShop gift cards on Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. I’m not too sure what I’m going to spend my gift cards on just yet… Any suggestions?
