I Miss My Nintendo 3DS

Happy Thursday!

When we first got our Nintendo Switch, I’ll be honest – we didn’t play it that much. But the past couple of months, there have been so many games coming out for it! Some I’ve looked forward to and some I’ve never heard of but want to give a try.

Through all this, I’ve neglected my Nintendo 3DS. And I have to say, I kind of miss it.

Nintendo 3DS & 2DS XL

While I love playing gaming on the big screen TV, I do think I prefer handhelds over home consoles. I like being able to bring my games with me and have easy access to games whenever I want.

Now the Switch can do both. Though I haven’t used the Switch in handheld mode much I’ve still been playing the Switch a lot more. More and more games come out for it each and every day and I’m trying to get through all the games and breathe at the same time.

Yet I realized I haven’t really touched my 3DS since Miitopia. While there are so many Switch games that I need to catch up on and play, there are a few 3DS games coming out as well.

Sure, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be out soon, so I’m sure that will take up a few days.

I also preordered Mario Party Top 100, so that should be here tomorrow. But then there’s also Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions. I haven’t played any of the games in the Mario & Luigi series, though it’s always been on my list. Other games just always took a higher priority.

Another one is Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy. I thought about getting this one on mobile, but when they announced a 3DS version, I decided I’d rather have it for that. Then I forgot about it.

I had mentioned trying out Monster Hunter Stories and Ever Oasis before, too.

There are just so many games and not enough time. I’m looking forward to getting Mario Party Top 100 though.

Are they any games that got pushed to the back burner for you? Are you eagerly awaiting Mario Party Top 100? Let us know in the comments below!

Team Rocket Is Back! [Pokemon Ultra Sun And Ultra Moon]

krismii
If for some strange reason you haven’t seen it yet, there’s a new trailer for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the latest Pokemon games that will be released on the seventeenth. The major aspect of the games that is showcased is the reveal of Team Rainbow Rocket. It’s fantastic seeing Giovanni again, and the idea of all of the past villain teams arriving to challenge you is also amazing. However, seeing all the past faces makes us wonder one thing — is this the end of the Pokemon game series?

rachmii
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was something I was looking forward to only because they’re Pokemon games. But the more they reveal for it, the more excited I get. I’m happy to see Team Rocket come back (despite the odd name) and I’m excited all the villains are there as well! It does make me worried that this will be the “end” (I don’t think so… but it’s still in the back of my mind), but I’m sure the game is going to be great with this new development!

krismii
I get excited the more they reveal as well, but I also wish I had discovered all the villains on my own while playing the game. My mind would have been blown to see Giovanni or Cyrus again if I had stumbled into the plot! It does make me wonder how Team Skull, since they were more entertaining than a threat (even to the games’ NPCs!) will fit into the villain group, if at all.

rachmii
I’m sure Giovanni will go to Team Skull and be like, “No, no. You’re doing this all wrong. Step aside.” I’m sure it’ll be great and just think of all the experience points we’ll get fighting all the various bosses and goons!

krismii
Fingers crossed that the plot will be awesome! I’m a little worried that all the villain teams will make things a bit messy… unless they do so in a humorous way. Are they all on the same side? Are they all after their own goals? Is that what all the legendary Pokemon from the wormhole will be there for, to help your ten-year-old self-protect the world from all of the villain teams? It should be a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to some epic fights.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I believe they’re all on one side as “Rainbow Rocket” with Giovanni as the dictator leader. Having every single legendary available will be cool as well. I’m looking forward to completing my Pokedex from every single game! However, that’s another reason why I’m worried about the end of the series… but we won’t think about that for right now. While the legendaries are cool, I don’t understand the Battle Agency. I’m sure it’ll be fun and you’ll get rare items, but… I don’t know why I have to rent my Pokemon?

krismii
It sounds like it’s bringing back aspects of the Battle Frontier from the older games, like in Emerald and onward, which had a section that allowed you to “rent” random Pokemon. I know Sun and Moon have the Battle Tree, but I haven’t fully explored that yet. Perhaps you’re “renting” Pokemon that other players from around the world have put up for the Battle Agency, although the trailer only showcased legendaries, and it mentioned battling alongside other trainers… It’d be interesting to borrow another random player’s Pokemon.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
If you’re renting other players’ Pokemon, that would be pretty cool. If it’s just random Pokemon, I don’t know how I feel about that. I’d rather just use my own Pokemon. You know, we have a bond. Either way, I’m looking forward to the new games. We preordered them so… 13 more days!

What do you think of the new trailer? Any predictions or speculations about the game? Let us know in the comments below!

New Pokemon Forms

Double Jump Kris MiiThe majority of Pokemon change forms as they grow, evolving into usually stronger creatures. It’s one of the main components to the games, enabling players to create all sorts of strategies for their adventure to play out.

While evolution usually happens when a Pokemon levels up, there are different criteria for some species, such as Lycanroc, whose form depends on the time of day…

Lycanroc was one of the first Alolan Pokemon to be revealed to the public and, within the games, its pre-evolved form Rockruff is one of the first wild Pokemon the player encounters when starting their journey in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. With Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon coming out in November, more information regarding the new forms of the Alolan Pokemon is starting to slowly make its way onto the Internet.

Where Lycanroc is concerned, there will be a new form to go along with its Midday and Midnight appearance: Dusk Lycanroc.

lycanroc

It’s a decent design, in my opinion. As Rachel pointed out, “It looks like a sunset!” Caught between the Midday and Midnight forms, the Dusk Lycanroc looks as if it’ll fit right in.

Yet, I wonder how many Pokemon are going to get new forms for the games. Most likely due to its werewolf motif, Lycanroc was one of — if not the only — Pokemon with an alternate form based on the time of day in the seventh generation to go with the day and night aspect of the games. Will other Pokemon get more forms for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon?

With Mega Evolution, then Z-Moves, Alolan variations of first generation Pokemon, now Ultra forms for the Sun and Moon legendaries, I’m curious as to how all of this will play out.

What do you think of Dusk Lycanroc? Are you hoping for other Pokemon to get different forms? Or do you think these are too many forms and variations to keep track of?

Nintendo Direct Thoughts: Pokemon

rachmii

Due to work, we weren’t able to watch the Nintendo Direct live, but we watched it right away when we got home. After seeing some spoilers on the Internet, we kind of knew what to expect. We were excited, yet iffy about what was about to come. During the direct, they announced three big news about Pokemon. One being Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Pokemon Gold and Silver coming to the virtual console for the Nintendo 3DS, and Pokken Tournament DX coming to the Nintendo Switch.

krismii
Although all three of the games will be released this year, I was a little underwhelmed, to say the least. We had expected some news about Pokemon Stars, or a third-tier game for Sun and Moon, for the Nintendo Switch as rumors from earlier in the year had led us to expect. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon sound great, but I do greatly miss the third-tier games, like Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. Sequel duos haven’t been my favorite installments in the main games. From a business standpoint, I understand that they’ll get more money from the two games rather than the one third-tier game, of course. That, and Kalos got the short end of the stick. Where’re their sequels or third-tier games?

rachmii
I definitely wasn’t expecting Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Again, I was expecting Stars. Apparently, there’s a new storyline, which will be good, but I’m confused as to why they have different forms… again. What happened to Mega Evolution? They didn’t do much with that and they introduced Z-Moves, and that seems as though it will get overshadowed by the Ultra forms because, I assume, the forms will be stronger in some way. Also, since Sun and Moon just came out less than a year ago, it doesn’t seem right for them to be coming out with two more games that are pretty much the same.

krismii
Right, it’s almost exactly a year since the original Sun and Moon. While I enjoyed Sun and Moon, I feel as if those installments were a bit more gimmicky than the previous games. Z-Moves weren’t impressive to me, especially after I had just started getting used to Mega Evolutions, and while the regional form of older Pokemon was interesting, I always viewed the new Pokemon of the generation to be the “regional” Pokemon of the land. I was more excited about the news of Gold and Silver’s Virtual Console release until they didn’t mention Crystal at all. While I started playing Pokemon with Yellow, Red, and Blue, it was Crystal that really pulled me into the franchise. You could play as a girl! The Pokemon sprites were animated! There were even more colors! The storyline was more developed! I’m hoping Crystal will come along down the road.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Of course, I’ll still be getting Ultra Sun an Ultra Moon and I’m sure I’ll enjoy them both. But, in the moment, I would have rathered a third-tier game like the olden days.
I’m excited for Gold and Silver to come to the VC. It’ll add to my collection since I downloaded Red, Blue, and Yellow. Plus, while I played those games, I was pretty young. I didn’t actually beat those games until HeartGold and SoulSilver. So, it’ll be fun to play the old school way. And I do hope they release Crystal at some point as well. I understand they included Yellow since it was a “special Pikachu” edition so it was a big deal, but… if you’re going to have some of the games, why not all of them?

krismii
I think it would be more money for the company if they released Crystal with Gold and Silver. Speaking of which, it seems they will do just that with the port of the Wii U game Pokken Tournament for the Switch, Pokken Tournament DX. When the Wii U game was announced, I was indifferent to the idea of the game. A fighter arcade-like game, it seems to be Smash Bros. but with only Pokemon characters. I would be more interested in the game if it was closer to the original Pokemon Stadium games for the Nintendo 64. Still, if we end up getting it, I’ll try it out.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Like the DLC for Mario Kart 8, I’m glad we didn’t buy Pokken Tournament for the Wii U. I wanted to get the game and try it out, but just never did for whatever reason. Now we can buy an improved version of the game for the Switch.
All in all, I’m not as excited for the announcements as I thought I would be. I think I got my hopes up for things that didn’t happen, but I’m still looking forward to all the games. I’ll be getting them all and I’m sure Ill enjoy them all just the same.
