Friday Favorites: Hyrule Warriors Characters

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday!

To continue celebrating the Zelda franchise from last week, I thought I’d go back to a game that I haven’t played in a while since it’s released. Hyrule Warriors is a spin-off game of the franchise that combines the Legend of Zelda characters with the action of the Dynasty Warriors series, a franchise that I’m afraid I’m not as familiar with. Nevertheless, it was tons of fun kicking ass as these characters!

5. Zelda

How much fun was it to actually play as the Princess of Destiny herself? Far from a helpless princess, Zelda was grace and elegance as she stabbed enemies with her sword. It was awesome seeing her on the front lines to defend her home and kingdom.

4. Link

Of course the hero himself is on this list. Link, as always, is a great character to control and it felt right being him as he combated the waves of enemies on the fields.

3. Impa

Impa, in almost any incarnation, was always a fascinating character to me (I may be biased a bit toward the Sheikah race, but I digress), with her prowess and dedication to Zelda and the rest of the royal family. Her big-ass sword was a joy to use when cleaving through enemies!

2. Fi

Fi’s beautiful design and dancer-like movements quickly made her one of my favorite characters in Skyward Sword, and it wasn’t a surprise to me that she was one of my preferred warriors in this game.

1. Sheik

Some of you may have been able to guess that Sheik was on my list. Besides the daggers that are used for quick attacks, the Harp is also a unique weapon. With the familiar and beautiful music powering Sheik’s attacks, it was definitely a fun warrior to be!

What are your favorite Hyrule Warriors characters?

Friday Favorites: Smash Characters

Double Jump Kris MiiHello everyone! Here on Friday, I’m going to wrap up this week on Double Jump with a list of my favorite Super Smash Bros. characters!

Rachel posted her top five early this week and, upon creating my own list, I realized how different our play styles were. She prefers characters that are more strength-based with powerful moves, while my list favors characters that are speedy and hard to hit. Which style do you prefer?

Marth.

Marth, along with Roy, in Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube was my first introduction to the Fire Emblem franchise. It was because of those characters that I sought out and bought Sacred Stones before being hooked completely on the franchise. Although Roy is awesome, I always preferred Marth due to being just a bit faster.

Zelda.

Ever since Zelda became an option in the Smash Bros. franchise, I’ve always enjoyed using her, more so because she could also transform into Sheik. You essentially had two characters in one, able to switch between whoever was better suited to defeating your opponents. Zelda’s fantastic and powerful magic-based moves, although with the fact that she’s another female contender, has made her one of my favorites.

Greninja.

A new fighter to the franchise, Greninja is one of the final forms of the newest starter Pokemon from X and Y. Greninja was drafted to the Smash Bros. franchise before the Kalos region games were published, and the ninja-like Pokemon is a great addition to the roster! His moves are unique and fun, especially his Water Shuriken and Shadow Sneak.

Robin.

Robin quickly became another of my favorites for the new Wii U installment of Smash. Having the unique ability to use both swords and magic makes him/her a versatile character, and tons of fun to use. He/she may not be the fastest on the battlefield, but if you plan out the right moves, you can definitely become the victor with Robin.

Sheik.

Sheik has been my favorite character since Ocarina of Time. A mysterious, ninja-like character with some mean harp skills to boot, Sheik being a playable character in the Smash Bros. franchise was totally exciting to me! Now that Sheik is a separate character from Zelda, Sheik has been my number one partner in Smash fights with all the speed and skill that makes Sheik a top contender.

Now if only we could get Geno on the roster…

Amiibo Bandwagon

Double Jump Kris Mii Hello, hello, everyone and happy Friday!

Today’s post is all about those fun little figurines that Nintendo is producing called Amiibo! Let me know what you think of them in the comments.

Amiibos are figurines of popular video game characters from Nintendo. They are able to be used in conjunction with some of Nintendo’s latest games, most notably Super Smash Brothers for the Wii U.

wp-1455926305505.jpgWhen the amiibos first came out my reaction was caught between, “Oh, they’re cute,” and “Wtf.” I didn’t understand the concept of them other than that they may have been created just as collectibles (which is something that plenty of people do with them) before realizing that they can be “leveled up” in games like Super Smash Brothers. It wasn’t something I was into at all — I would have much rather just play the games without worrying about what level my toy was at.

Then the green yarn Yoshi came out in celebration of Yoshi’s Woolly World.

Holy fudgesicle, that thing is adorable! I just saw it available when I was at Toys R Us for something — I can’t even remember what — and they were just sitting there. I bought one on impulse (they wouldn’t let me have two) and have found myself looking more and more at amiibos.

(Technically, our Classic Mario amiibo was the first one we had gotten with our Super Mario Maker Wii U bundle, which was pretty cool. But the Yoshi’s cute factor trumped it.)

After that, Rachel and I started thinking more about the amiibos. Rachel even gave me Sheik for my birthday, where it sits proudly on my desk. We still don’t use them in games — in fact, the few we have are still in their boxes and we’re not sure if we’ll ever open them — but we keep looking at them whenever we pass them by at our favorite video game stores.

Who will be next? Charizard and Greninja? Fox or Roy, maybe? Perhaps we’ll have an updated picture of all our amiibos later down the road!

Do you collect amiibos? Which ones are your favorite?
