It’s no secret that Rachel and I enjoy watching YouTube, our favorites mostly being gamers. Most of the videos that they produce are reviews or let’s plays, but there are a few out there who showcase their love of video games in other creative ways.
Below is a music video for a “villain boy band” called Big Bad Bosses. A few YouTubers personified Ganondorf from the Legend of Zelda series, Bowser from the Super Mario series, Dr. Eggman from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy series. Respectively, they are Satchell Drakes, Jirard Khalil, Alex Faciane, and Nate Sharp.
In our opinion, they sound pretty damn good, and their music video is amusing, to say the least. We definitely hope you enjoy their music as much as we do!
Despite the main Pokemon games’ stories starting off with you as a beginner trainer just trying to take on everyday challenges, the world inevitably falls into danger and only your ten-year-old self can save it. Throughout the years, though, there have been some villains who followed their dreams better than others. Below are a few of my favorite antagonists.
I’ll admit, I’m still not entirely sure as to what their goal was. I believe it was simply just to survive, perhaps make enough money to do so. They were one of the more amusing teams to date, and despite them trying to make nuisances of themselves around the Alola islands, their family bond to one another was endearing.
Team Aqua and Magma
Both of these teams had clear-cut goals and went for them, whether it be raising the sea levels or creating more land for the “good of the world.” They all had something to believe in and even had the strength to acknowledge later on that, “maybe this isn’t such a good idea.”
This team was good enough to be the antagonists for not one, but two generations of Pokemon games. Even though their main goals were making money and controlling Pokemon, their methods and motives were simple and effective to work with the games’ story lines. It was a delight to my young self when playing Pokemon Yellow to go up against Jessie, James, and Meowth in a fight!
Despite the awesome feel-good, jolly, everything-is-wonderful kind of emotions that run rampant during this time of the year, let’s talk about some of our favorite video game villains. You know, those people that you love to hate (or hate to love).
Okay, so I’m not done with the story in Pokemon Moon, but so far the antagonistic team seems awesome. These dorks are hysterical, and I can’t wait to keep going to see what sort of antics they get up to!
Manfred von Karma
This dude was ridiculous. His cold attitude towards his adopted son, towards his victims, was horrible and his aim for perfection made me want to sock him across the jaw. The pressure he put on his children did not put him on my good list, but he was a shoe-in for a favorite villain.
Although the Legend of Zelda series has a plethora of amazing characters, heroes and villains alike, Ganondorf was always intriguing. Unlike Link and Zelda, who are reincarnated in almost every game, there has been evidence that Ganondorf is one man forever looping in time for his quest for power. You have to admire his ambition and determination!
The main villain behind all the catastrophe that had robbed the world of wishes in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Smithy was a machine-loving robot fanatic. You heard all about him throughout the entire adventure until you finally come face-to-face with him in the final two-part battle. The build-up to the scene and Smithy’s complete apathy to the heroes trying to talk him out of overrunning the world with machines really makes you dive into the fight with gusto to save the world. That, and the music during his battle is fantastic!
What are some of your favorite video game villains?
Everyone always gushes about the heroes of the games, but what about the villains? Have their been any recent villains or minions that really made an impression (good or bad) on you? I think one that stands out to me at the moment is Ghirahim, one of the main antagonists in the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Fabulous is one of the first words that come to mind when thinking of him!
When we first started playing Skyward Sword, we thought Ghirahim was creepy and weird. But, as the game went on, we grew to enjoy his character. Sure, he’s bizarre. But that’s what makes him kind of funny. I remember we both burst out laughing at the end of the game when he was dancing around Zelda’s floating body. Literally dancing.
Fabulously creepy was what he was, but he made an excellent antagonist, in my opinion. Another favorite villain is, as cliche as it may be, Bowser from the Super Mario games. He was never truly fearsome to me, but my earliest, main memory of him was from Super Mario RPG where he actually joined your party. His snarky remarks in games since then have placed him on my favorites list.
Bowser is also wonderful in Paper Mario. He’s funny in that one, even if he is the true villain. Though, he’s not the main villain in some other Paper Mario games. Dr. Eggman from the Sonic franchise is great as well. It’s not so much that he can’t really outsmart Sonic. He just can’t catch him.
Ah, Dr. Eggman! It’s a shame that they can’t showcase his true brilliance, as he’s supposed to be a genius. He has such a catchy theme song in Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2! One of the villains that I believe I miss the most is Giovanni from the original Pokemon games. He was the leader of Team Rocket and seemed to have an actual goal in mind. Unlike, for example, Team Aqua and Team Magma, who just wanted to expand the water or land, or Team Plasma, who used Pokemon but wanted to release them all…? Opposing Pokemon teams’ motives got a bit shakier as the franchise went on.
Team Rocket was the best and always will be. Giovanni is a fine villain, but I adore Jessie and James. Even though they were more in the anime than the games, but still. Though, I do have to admit, N was great in the Unova region. He had a great story.
Yes, his wasn’t too bad, but Team Plasma’s motivations to me were still a bit strange. Other fantastic villains were Von Karma and Dahlia from the first and third Ace Attorney games. They were amazing to hate!
Ah, yes! I agree. You have to love the villains in video games. Because, without them, we wouldn’t have a game to play.
