Friday Favorites: AR Games Wish List

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday everyone!

Aside from virtual reality, AR games are becoming much bigger with the likes of Pokemon GO, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and even Minecraft Earth. If AR games were able to merge with virtual reality — games where you bring yourself to a franchise’s world — they would be perfect to me. Yet, even if all we’re really able to do is bring elements of video game worlds into our reality, I’m down to try out more AR games. Here are some franchises I would love to see touched upon in our world.

AR Games | Augmented Reality | Video Games | AR | Nintendo | Doublexjump.com

The Legend of Zelda

I wouldn’t mind seeing a deku baba or a keese flying around in AR as long as it meant I could also see bits and pieces of Hyrule in our world through my phone. AR puzzles can give way to little rewards — hearts for replenishing health, rupees for in-game items, etc. — and players can take on big bosses together, similar to the raids in Pokemon GO. Players can have an inventory of weapons, with a sword probably being the most popular, but are able to switch them out through the menu. Little fairies, like Navi and Tatl, can be a constant companion to help navigate Hyrule. There can be an overarching story to find pieces of the Triforce, a race against Ganondorf, with teams of players — perhaps categorizing them into Hyrule’s races — working together or, perhaps, against one another. I just really want to explore Hyrule in my everyday life, okay?

Superheroes

Whether this ties into Marvel or DC or is a more original twist to the genre, I wouldn’t mind having a superhero AR game. I used to love playing the MMORPG City of Heroes when it was still around, and bringing back just a semblance of that would be great. Players can select simplified superpowers when they create their character and gain experience points to level up as they defeat AR monsters or bad guys. As players level up, their powers become stronger, such as a level 1 player’s fire ball evolving into a steadier fire blast at level 5 or so. NPC superhero characters can be mentors to the players, giving them solo or team missions to protect the AR world. Perhaps players can even create their own superhero “teams” with friend codes, and teams can participate in leader boards, gaining points depending on how many missions they fulfill or baddies they defeat.

Mystery Series

Being an AR detective could be interesting. Players can be detectives, with the game using your location to give you hints towards clues, such as claiming that a clue is within so many steps. These clues can be brought to a base, similar to Pokestops in Pokemon GO, and players can work together to figure out the clues and how they point to the NPC culprit, or however the case decides to end. Tie the game to a franchise with NPC mentors like Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, or Sherlock Holmes. Give the game a friend list that are your fellow contacts and detectives in the AR world, being able to share clues and notes while collaborating on cases.

Super Mario Maker

I believe Mario already exists in AR, even if it’s just a demo, yet I haven’t heard too much more on it. Seeing the gameplay video of Minecraft Earth got me thinking about what Super Mario Maker would look like in AR. Minecraft Earth allows you to build structures to play around in, and I think it would be interesting to be able to build Super Mario “levels” in AR as well. Being able to see question mark blocks and little koopas dashing around in AR could be fun. Every once in a while, Bowser and the Koopalings could be causing havoc somewhere like a raid, and players can help defeat them by using koopa shells, fire flowers, or other power-up items in the Mario world.

What other franchises should get the AR treatment? Let me know in the comments below! If you liked this post, please share it around.

Friday Favorites: Wanted Assist Trophies

Double Jump Kris MiiHappy Friday!

Still riding the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hype train, this Friday is dedicated to the assist trophies that I am hoping will make an appearance in the game. While there is still a little time to hope for new characters that weren’t revealed at E3 (hey, they didn’t say Inkling and Ridley were the only new characters!), I figured it’d be a little safer to wonder about the new assist trophies.

Double Jump | Super Smash Bros | Super Smash Bros Ultimate | Nintendo | Nintendo Switch | E3 | E3 2018

Breath of the Wild Champions

While I’d love to fight as the Champions themselves (don’t you dare tell me Urbosa and her lightning powers on the stage wouldn’t be awesome), having them be assist trophies would be a close second. Urbosa could cast lightning on the field, Daruk can create a temporary force field around the player who called him, Mipha can heal some of the player’s damage, and Revali could create strong gusts of wind on the field that could either help or hinder the players by shoving them around, staying true to Revali’s standoffish nature.

Goombas

A bit of a silly one, but I think it would be hilarious to just see a herd of Goombas go storming across the field, sweeping up anyone who happens to be in their way as they tumble off the stage. Hey, we’re going to be able to play as a Goomba in Super Mario Party, right? Bring this little guy back onto the Smash stages!

Lana

At the risk of over-saturating the assist trophies with Legend of Zelda characters, I think Lana from Hyrule Warriors would be an interesting assist trophy. She’s not a character that’s part of the main franchise line up, and she could attack with a random spell from her arsenal. Plus, she’s adorable.

New Pokemon

Alright, so this isn’t an assist trophy, but I figured it is close enough for this list. I presume there will be more Pokemon to discover in the pokeball item with the Alola generation of Pokemon appearing since the last Smash Bros. game. I’m hoping to see Decidueye, the final evolution of the Grass-starter Rowlet, rain arrows down on opponents with his Z-Move Sinister Arrow Raid. Mudsdale was another favorite new Pokemon of mine and can do an Earthquake or other devastating Ground-move. A Salazzle popping up and temporarily poisoning opponents, where their damage counter steadily rises, would be fun to see as well.

What is your assist trophy wish list?

Nintendo E3 Predictions & Wish List

E3 2018 Predictions & Wishlist | Gaming | Video Games | E3 2018 | DoublexJump.com

krismii
E3 is on the horizon, being scheduled from June 12 to the 14 this year. Presentations from the video game industry’s most popular developers and publishers — like Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Activision — highlight the show, garnering major attention. Last year, almost 70,000 people were in attendance for the show! Considering it’s across the country from us, Rachel and I catch the show online. Rather, Rachel will. I’ll see highlights later since I’ll be at work during the show.

rachmii
I don’t understand why the show in smack in the middle of the week, but I’m not here to complain about that. I’m sad I can’t watch it live with Kris, but I’m excited I’ll have a chance to watch it live for once. Of course, if I’m to be honest, I mostly care about what Nintendo and Microsoft have to say. Still, I’m always interested to see what the other companies are working on and for which platforms and such.

krismii
Nintendo is mainly what I pay attention to, but we are starting to play more Xbox games as well. Seeing the technology and gameplay brought on by other companies is always amazing to see, of course. What I’m looking forward to most from Nintendo is possibly some more new regarding the Pokemon games that are coming out, the Let’s Go! titles and the core game that’s slated for 2019. A hint or teaser would be nice for those!

rachmii
Honestly, while I certainly want to know more about the core game, I doubt we’ll find anything else out about it until E3 2019. Maybe they could give us the title or something, but I feel like they’ll hold onto their secrets. I’m sure they’ll talk about the Let’s Go! games some more though! What I really want to see from Nintendo is an original, new core Animal Crossing game for the Nintendo Switch. New Leaf came out for the 3DS in 2012. We’re due for something new.

krismii
I’m sure many people are hoping for Animal Crossing. I’m wondering how much info for the Switch Super Smash Bros. we’ll get. Perhaps more of an idea if it is an original addition to the franchise or a port of the Wii U and 3DS version? A trailer for Fire Emblem Switch would be fun to see too!

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Yes, Smash will definitely be a thing. A Fire Emblem game would look great on the Switch. I still want them to announce a Luigi’s Mansion 3, even though they’re remaking the original to the Nintendo 3DS. So, I doubt that will happen. I’m also certain we’ll most like see more of the new Yoshi game. Or, I hope we do anyway.

krismii
Perhaps Nintendo will also announce a N64 Classic console. Rumors are flying for it and the other two Classic consoles did so well that they’re being re-released, so E3 may be a good opportunity for them to let us know about the N64 Classic’s existence. I’m also hoping for, perhaps, a little more on the online paid service. That is supposed to start this September, I believe, so a few finalizing comments on it would be nice.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Oh, right. I’m sure they’ll talk about the paid service some more too. And yeah, I’d love to see a Nintendo64 Classic. There’s so much I want to see from Nintendo as a whole. I’m excited to see what they come up with.

What do you hope to see at E3 from Nintendo or otherwise? Let us know in the comments below!

N64 Classic Wish List

Nintendo64 Classic Wishlist | Nintendo | Video Games | Gaming | DoublexJump.com

krismii
Rumors abound that Nintendo will be giving us the N64 Classic at some point in the future. Everyone and their mother has a wish list detailing what games they would like to see on a classic version of the N64 console, and Rachel and I are no exception. Frankly, I think a couple of the obvious games would be the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, despite those having been remade for the Nintendo 3DS family.

rachmii
If this turns into a real thing, I really want the Mario Party 1, 2, and 3. I would hope, after hearing so many complaints from the latest Mario Party games, especially Top 100, Nintendo would listen and add the original 3 Mario Party games onto the tiny console.

krismii
At least one of those has to be on there! I believe Mario Party 2 is the most popular, but Mario Party being the original probably has a better shot at being on there if Nintendo could only pick one. I’d love to see Pokemon Stadium, either one if not both, on the Classic console. Those games were so much fun!

rachmii
I would prefer both Pokemon Stadiums. While they’re at it, they can add a brand new one as well. Pokemon Snap would certainly be great to revisit as well. People would go nuts for that, I think.

krismii
I wonder if the Poke Finder in the Rotom Dex in Sun and Moon was supposed to be a little nod to Pokemon Snap? People would love it if Snap made a comeback in the N64 Classic! The original Smash Bros., Super Mario 64, and Harvest Moon 64 would be great additions, if not shoe-ins, as well.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I would love to play the original Smash game again. That’d be so much fun, especially with the new one coming out. Also, I’m sure this is a given for me, but I’d love to have Paper Mario on there. We have it on the Wii from the virtual console, but it’d be fun to play it on the Nintendo64 again… even if it shrunk.

krismii
Yoshi’s Story would be adorable to see again, and Mario Kart 64 would be fun to revisit. I’m sure fans of Star Fox 64 would welcome it, as well as Donkey Kong 64. There are quite a few games with “64” in the title, aren’t there?

Rachel Mii Double Jump
I was just going to say, there are a lot of “64” games. I’d love to play Donkey Kong 64 again and even play Banjo Kazooie, which is a game I’ve never tried myself. Overall, the Nintendo64 was a classic and had so many great games. I really do hope they bring it back.

Dream Harry Potter Game

Double Jump Kris MiiIf you’re a Harry Potter fan, guess what? It’s Harry’s birthday today!

Besides gaming, I’m also a big reader, and the Harry Potter series is a favorite of mine. There’s a television channel called Freeform that never needs a big excuse to run a Harry Potter movie marathon. It tends to play at our house whenever the marathon happens, usually in the background in the kitchen, and it’s the kind of series that makes my family feel warm and fuzzy inside, no matter what medium it’s in.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling is massive. Everyone knows who Harry Potter is. The series spans across so many mediums — the books, the movies, toys and, yes, video games.

Most of the Harry Potter video games are the usual licensed games, the ones where you control the main character through the story, sometimes with glitches or weird controls. People eat them up enough, though, if only to get that taste of performing magic at Hogwarts.

With Virtual Reality becoming a main form of gaming on the market nowadays, I’m curious if franchises such as Harry Potter will ever reach that platform. The game would be massive, of course, even if it only allows the player to go through one year at Hogwarts. A Choose Your Own Adventure type of visual novel, if you will, it could start off with a small quiz (or choice) to allow the character to get sorted. Classes can be small mini games, allowing players to level up with their magic, with a larger plot looming in the background. There can be key main NPCs that your character interacts with, his or her or they’re choices affecting how well you maintain your relationship with the NPCs.

Perhaps we can’t all be Harry Potter, but I wouldn’t mind playing a character that joins Dumbledore’s Army and defends the Wizarding World against Death Eaters.

It’s just a thought. Whenever we do get a chance to purchase a decent Virtual Reality system, the Harry Potter world is definitely a place that I want to visit.

Do you enjoy Harry Potter? What kind of series or world do you think may adapt well to Virtual Reality? Anyone know if this will be an actual thing one day?

Holiday Wishlist

Holiday Wishlist for Gamers

krismii
Christmas is right around the corner! Rachel’s and my family generally know that video games usually dominate our wishlists. Besides us each getting the other half of Pokemon Sun and Moon, there are a few more games that we’re asking from Santa.

rachmii
I would love Mario Party Star Rush and Paper Mario: Color Splash! Neither one of them look as good as the games before them, but Paper Mario is my favorite series and I love the Mario Party games. I want to give them both a try and judge how good (or bad) they are myself!

krismii
My wishlist consists of games that I’ve probably already mentioned a few times on this blog, like Overwatch and Batman: The Telltale Series. There are plenty of contenders for the gaming PC and laptop that we have, and I would love to utilize our Steam account much more than we have been.

rachmii
I also asked for a Nintendo eShop gift card. I can’t wait to get my hands on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice! I have been waiting too long for that game.

krismii
I’m asking for eShop gift cards as well, but I’m more interested in the older games, like how we just bought Legend of the Zelda: A Link to the Past. I think I’m hoping more for Steam cards as well. Death Road to Canada seems interesting after watching a Let’s Play of it — zombies aren’t really our thing, but this game made us laugh! It’d be awesome to see how far along we can get!

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Yes, I want to use Steam more! Death Road to Canada seems like a lot of fun. I also want to get the game guide for Pokemon Sun and Moon… I love collecting the guides and I can’t wait to take a peek inside what secrets it holds, even though I’ve played through most of the game.

krismii
I’m good with any sort of gamer merchandise. Not that I need more, but I love sweatshirts and t-shirts that showcase Legend of Zelda or Pokemon. Basically, anything that we mentioned in our Dream Loot Crate post sounds good to me, haha!

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Wouldn’t that be awesome? I want to get all the merchandise! And Pokemon cards. One can never have too many Pokemon cards. I can’t wait for Christmas! If only just for you to see which Amiibo I got you!

krismii
I hope that you like the one I got for you as well! It was very difficult not to go crazy buying all sorts of gamer gifts for you. Buying for and spoiling others is my favorite part of Christmas!

What games are you hoping to get this holiday season? Let us know in the comments!

Meet DeeJay – Gaming Wishlist

krismii
As many of you know, we recently bought a heavy-duty gaming laptop from a good friend of ours. Barely a year old, only used for six months, the Alienware computer was a steal. We’re definitely excited for all the new gaming possibilities it brings us!

rachmii
A few months ago, we bought a desktop together mainly for gaming. But we ended up using it more so for blogging and graphics and The Sims. But now we can get as many games as we want!

krismii

Rather, as many games as the laptop will allow us, which will be a decent amount I’m sure, haha! On the top of my list of games is Batman: The Telltale Series, the visual novel, choose-your-own-adventure type of game. I’ve heard plenty of positive reviews about it, and I can’t wait until I can splurge and buy it!

rachmii

The top one on my list is Stardew Valley. While I liked the Harvest Moon games (but couldn’t stick with them too long) I’ve heard so many great things about Stardew Valley.

krismii
That sounds fun as well, especially since I am a Harvest Moon fan. I would love to give Overwatch a try as well. The online aspect would certainly be a throwback to when I played City of Heroes!

Rachel Mii Double Jump
Overwatch definitely looks like a good one! Especially since we don’t play that type of game often. I also want to put Minecraft on there as well. I think we’d have a lot of fun with that.

krismii
Minecraft would be awesome! We’ll be awful at it, haha! I would love to get into some MMORPGs like World of Warcraft or Warhammer again.

Rachel Mii Double Jump
We’ll just have to get all the games from Steam. Plus more. Either way, we’re going to put this laptop to good use!

What games are on your wishlist?
