Happy almost Mar10 Day! It’s a day that I tend to forget about until the actual day arrives. I’ve always enjoyed the pun of Mar10 Day but I’ll be honest, I’ve never been too in tune with it. I’m far more interested in Pokemon Day.
This isn’t to say I don’t like Mario, of course, I just have my favorites. I feel like Mar10 Day always comes and goes without being too much in the spotlight. Or maybe I’m just oblivious.
2020 was Mario’s 35th anniversary and that celebration isn’t quite over yet. The party lasts until March 31st with a few limited-time games such as Super Mario Bros. 35 and Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
Now that Mar10 Day is here, Nintendo is giving us a little more, but the celebration isn’t lasting nearly as though as the anniversary.
For one, Mario Tennis Aces, Super Mario Maker 2, Super Mario Party, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 are 35% off until March 13. Now is your chance since these games don’t typically go on sale. Since Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury just released, I’m not surprised that the game isn’t included on this list.
Seeing Luigi’s Mansion 3 on the list surprised me a bit since it’s “Luigi” and made me miss the Year of Luigi. Does anyone remember that time? I’d like another one, please. Give me Luigi’s Mansion 4! I’m ready for it.
If you’re still playing Nintendo’s mobile games, there are events in Mario Kart Tour and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, both running until March 23rd.
Or, if you’re looking for something more main-stream, you can visit your Animal Crossing New Horizons island again. (You either haven’t been there in months or you’re still actively playing the game. There’s no in-between.) From now until the end of time, you can purchase Mario-themed islands to cosplay as your favorite Mario characters (minus Waluigi, of course) or get some cool items to decorate your island. You can get blocks, coins, stars, warp pipes, and more.
This is what I’ve been looking forward to the most. I’ve been wanting to hop back in the game for a while but didn’t because I was afraid to get sucked back in, thus ignoring my real-life duties. The Mario items pushed me over the edge and I’ve been playing Animal Crossing again every single day.
I’ll talk more about that at a later date once I have the time to play around with the Mario items. (I don’t time travel, so it’ll be a while.)
Finally, Nintendo is releasing another Nintendo Switch. The dock is red with red Joy-Con and blue Joy-Con straps to look like Mario. It also comes with a Mario-themed carrying case, which is cool. Of course, it’s only offered while supplies last so I’m not too sure how long this Switch will be available. It could already be sold out, for all I know.
For $300, I won’t be picking it up because, sadly, I am not rich. With rumors of a new Switch coming soon-ish, I’m hoarding my money until that comes out.
Also, the Switch looks great – but they totally missed an opportunity to have a giant mustache on the front of the dock.
So, there you have it. Celebrate Mar10 Day however you can. For me, I’ll be heading back to my island in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
