It’s summer. Which means vacation. Which means going on long car trips. I’m not the type of person to get motion sickness or dizzy while reading or playing games in a moving car. Normally, whenever I go on vacation with my family, I sit in the back with my 3DS or 2DS and log a few hours into one of my games.
Miitopia is a fun one to play for a long stretch of time and nowhere to go if you’re stuck in the car. The gameplay can be minimal if you want it to be, the storyline is simple, so there’s not a whole lot you need to really focus on. I went away a few weekends ago and played this in the car for the two and a half hours we were on the road. I accomplished a lot in the game and it made the ride go so much faster.
Any Pokemon game is great to play on a long car ride, but I especially love to play the main series games. Going through the main storyline is great and all, but I like bringing Pokemon games with me that I’ve already beaten. Shiny hunting and egg hatching can take quite a bit of time. It requires a long stretch of time as well as patience and dedication. Sitting in the car for a long period of time and giving yourself that chance to shiny hunt is great.
Mario Kart 7
Mario Kart is a fun go-to game. It’s just simple gameplay and there’s no true story involved so you can start and stop whenever you want. Sure, it’s no fun to shut the game off in the middle of a race, but you’re not really too much if you do. Plus, it’s fun to get some practice in for a couple of hours or so.
I enjoy playing Animal Crossing on long car rides because, whenever my family goes away, we like to leave early in the morning so that we miss most of the traffic later. Depending on which Animal Crossing game you play (and how early it is in real life), your villagers and the shops may be up and out and about. You can get the majority of your chores done for the day in the car – watering the flowers, shaking the trees and collecting the fruits, finding all the fossils… then, later if you have time to play again, you can focus on mingling with your villagers or selling ideas. Plus, it’s mindless gameplay and simple enough so that if you need to stop abruptly, you can quickly save and turn it off.
Any Downloaded Game On My 3DS/2DS
I don’t have much on my 2DS because I haven’t had that one as long as I’ve had my 3DS. However, my 3DS has a ton of games downloaded… half (if not more than half) are Pokemon games, but there’s still a lot there. I also have a few of the Phoenix Wright games. If you’re good, you can get through one case during the car ride depending on if the case is the first or second one in the game. Overall, there are plenty of games – quick and in-depth – that keep me busy in the car.
