What Happened To The Girl & The Robot?

Rachel Mii | DoubleJump.comHappy Thursday!
A while ago (and by that I mean about a year ago), Kris and I did a game review for Miketendo64 for a Wii U game called The Girl and the Robot. It was an interesting game, not the best, but interesting. After we played though, we never heard about it ever again.

The Girl and The Robot is a third-person action/adventure game. You switch between two nameless characters – the girl and the robot. The robot is able to battle while the girl can heal any wounds he has. In order for them to walk together, the robot must be carrying her. However, both are needed to solve puzzles and sometimes one needs to stand on a button while the other needs to stand on another.
It’s a clever game with wonky controls. There’s not much plot to it or character development. The girl was trapped in a castle, she escaped and rescued the robot from his cage and now, I assume, they’re trying to escape the area together. Yet, there’s an evil witch after the girl and she has an army of evil robots. That’s about it.
Even though it’s been about a year since I’ve played the game, I was thinking about it the other day. I’m not sure why it popped in my head, but it did and I was reminded of the ending.
The game ended at an awful cliff-hanger. And when I say that, I mean the game felt incomplete.
It ended with a sign saying, “End of Act 1.” Which, of course, leads me to believe there is an Act 2 coming.
Needless to say, when I thought of the game again the other day I immediately looked it up searching for an Act 2. I couldn’t find anything. All the information I saw was from Act 1. There was no mention of a possible sequel anywhere.
Except one place. I ended up on the Steam page for the game. Someone in the discussion forum asked about Act 2 and the developer replied, back in October 2017, they’ll be working on it after they finish another game so it won’t be the “immediate future.”
Like I said, this wasn’t the best game, but I’m curious as to how it ends and I was disappointed by this response. Working on other games is great, but The Girl and the Robot can take as little as 4 hours to beat. It’s not nearly enough time to be considered a full game, in my opinion. I feel like both acts should have been meshed into one game or they should have already had the second act mostly finished to be released within a year of the first game.
So, I guess I’m a little disappointed they haven’t worked on Act 2 more recently. The game had pretty good potential.

  1. I picked up this game a few months ago, and finally got around to playing it. I really loved it. I hope to see the act II developed soon too. I was also a surprised at how short the game was, but other than that, I enjoyed it immensely. The negative reviews I’ve seen on it don’t seem to get it. Yes, there’s only a 3 hit combo with the robot, but this isn’t supposed to be dynasty warriors lol. The music was great, in my opinion, and fits the game. I’ve seen complaints about the graphics and controls too, and in the same negative reviews complain about wasting 10 dollars. Seriously?! How cheap are you? This is their first ever game produced, and I would have paid more gladly. I look forward to the sequel soon.

    • I agree with you. The controls definitely could have been done better, but overall it was a good game. I was invested in the story and I hope they come out with Act II soon. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

  2. I want to try this game… But no idea it was so short and the cliffhanger was there…
